The Holy Martyr Julian was from the city of Emesa 1240. Having well studied the art of medicine in his youth, he healed not only the bodies of people, but also their souls: for while healing illnesses, he taught to believe in Christ and converted many of the pagans to Christ God. When the holy martyrs Silouan the Bishop, Luke the Deacon and the Reader Mokiy, whose memory is celebrated on January 29, were captured and led out of prison to be devoured by wild beasts, Julian, falling to these martyrs, kissed them and begged them not to fear death for the Lord. After this, he was taken by the pagans and imprisoned in a certain den; there they drove a long nail into his head, and also pierced his arms and legs with nails; after that he gave up his spirit to God.
