The holy martyrs Adrian and Eubulus were from the city of Vannia 1133. Burning with love for the confessors of Christ, they went to the city of Caesarea 1134 and there, by their speeches and the integrity of their lives, they learned that they were Christians. Therefore, they were captured and brought to trial before the head of the region, Firmilian. By order of the latter, they were beaten on the shoulders and ribs and subjected to other, even more cruel tortures in order to force them to renounce Christ. But since they remained firm in their faith, Firmilian and those who were with him became furious, and it was decided to throw the saints to be torn to pieces by wild beasts. Blessed Adrian was the first to be abandoned. Seized by a lion, he bravely fought with him, after which his head was cut off with a sword. They tried to persuade Saint Evvul to renounce the faith with various admonitions and seductions, but he remained adamant, and therefore he was thrown to the beasts. He also fought with a lion and died, beheaded by the sword, like Saint Hadrian. The city of Vannia, or Van, was located on the eastern shore of the lake, which currently bears the same name, in Armenia.
