1. Good thoughts need to be written down. Let the unfolded Gospel and the Apostle lie before your eyes. Read the poem and try to turn every word into a subject of discussion. If God gives you a thought... write it down. Let the sheet lie on the table... And write down other good thoughts (1, p. 35). Taking notes is beneficial, but remembering is better... and doing accordingly is even better. But don’t they come to their own good thoughts?.. They come to everyone... They are suggested by the Guardian Angel, and they must be written down... Do you know the legend about a certain old man... that all the walls of his cell were covered with writing. When they asked him: what is this? - he answered: these are the thoughts that the Angel of God inspires in me... In the Yeletsky Monastery (Orel province) not so long ago the nun Magdalene labored... who wrote down the thoughts that came to her on small pieces of paper and pasted them in places visible on the walls... And you get a notebook and write it in as you please. And handicraft works well for you, it is a great protection against idleness (3, p. 237). 2. Do the good things encountered in life not only externally, but also internally, so that thoughts and feelings are pleasing Repentance, of course, is in action for you. What else do you need? Avoid sins and do every good thing you encounter along the course of your life, not only with your body, but with your soul and heart, not only externally, but also internally, i.e. so that both thoughts and feelings are always pleasing to God. What else but a good life?! The prophet says: I will seek Your face, O Lord, I will seek Your face 35. This expressed the unceasing memory of God with unceasing zeal to please Him to everyone. This is the prayer system - inside (1, p. 137). 3. About writing down good thoughts when reading the Gospel Reading the Gospel is the best reading. May the Lord give you good thoughts every time you read... Here is Fr. John of Kronstadt wrote down these thoughts and has now published... two decent books have been published... And I once wrote down... I had to advise one solitary woman to write down good thoughts. But when I sent the letter, I thought: after all, she doesn’t know what she can mean by this... let me write a few as an example... and I wrote... About extracts and recording good thoughts You make extracts - good. It occurred to me to ask you: do any thoughts come to you when reading or praying, good thoughts about the order of spiritual life? If they come, get a book or notebook and write them down the same time they come, not writing, but expressing only what came. One of the ascetics, I forget who, never missed them, but always wrote them down on the wall with charcoal. Write it down. Afterwards, you will sometimes run and thereby refresh good memories. I mean such thoughts that are born of themselves and occupy attention and move the heart - good, edifying thoughts (4, p. 218). 5. Writing down good thoughts There are people whose thoughts, knocked out of the heart by the word of God, like sparks knocked out of flint by a flint, are written down as a memory in the belief that these are the essence of the instructions offered by the Guardian Angel. And indeed, this is so. At the right time, such thoughts will be the daily bread for the soul. And the one who does not put them down does the same as the one who saves money for a rainy day. One old man had all his walls covered with such thoughts. In the monastery of St. Sava near Jerusalem there are many handwritten collections of paternal sayings.
