When you go to visit one of your relatives or friends, go not to have good food and drink with them, but to share a friendly conversation with them, to revive your soul from the vanity of everyday life with a conversation of love and sincere friendship, to be comforted by a common faith. “I am not looking for yours,” says the apostle, “but for you” (2 Cor. 12:14) (6). How much people lose in home conversation by not talking about God! How animated, fruitful and diversified their conversation would be! Believers would then have “rivers flowing from the belly” of their saving words (cf. John 7:38). How much such conversations would bring edification, soothing, true sweetness! Meanwhile, now, not talking about God in home circles, but talking about the vanity of the world, they soon become exhausted in conversation, get bored and then kill precious time in stupid games or dances. The enemy of the human race noticed this weakness in people to engage in vain, everyday conversations and generally spend time in vain amusements. He has extracted and continues to derive enormous benefit from this weakness: he started theaters and circuses - a true manifestation of vanity, a true mockery of human vanity, and the insane among people, prone to vanity, laziness and inaction, willingly visit these theaters and circuses, not finding a better activity for themselves that would bring peace and pleasure to their spirit. “Vanity of vanities... everything is vanity!.. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is all for man” (Eccl. 12:8, 13) (7). You might be interested in:
