How to think about Saul? And he was anointed, received the Spirit, he himself became spiritual (I can’t say anything else about him), he even prophesied, and so unexpectedly and unusually that this miracle turned into a proverb and is repeated to this day: is Saul also a prophet (1 Sam. 10, 11). Since he did not completely surrender himself to the Spirit and did not completely turn into a different person, as was predicted (see 1 Samuel 10:6), but some spark of the former remained in him. From this we can also learn that just as grace does not concern unworthy people and a bad and untuned organ (for it is beautifully said, of which I am also sure: wisdom will not enter an evil soul (Wisdom 1:4)), so (I will add this on my own) due to the inconstancy and changeability of the structure and nature of man, it is no less difficult for him to maintain dignity and harmony in himself, just as it was first to improve himself and become worthy. But often grace itself, leading to boiling and arrogance, removed from God those who approached Him wrongly (I refer to the evil that is most wretched and incomprehensible in us), and we are already deposed in our very exaltation, and sin turns out to be sin because through good it causes me death (Rom. 7:13) (1). Such is the grace of the Spirit - it makes those of like mind equal in honor (1)! Let neither the distance of the journey, nor the vastness of the sea, nor the fire if it is on the road, nor any other small or large obstacle frighten you, so that you may be worthy of grace (1). By gift of grace I mean the Divine giving of the Spirit (2). Grace is not constrained; it is not limited to place. Therefore, let the little ones be allowed to be bold, especially when it comes to common and important matters; and small ones give advice with such gray hair, which, perhaps, will say something smarter than many (2).
