Sadness for God's sake and true pity can be born with God's help from reasoning and reflection, when a person returns to himself and talks about his insignificance and God's greatness, which he offended with his sins, from reasoning about the highest power of God, to which the sinner does not submit. God is the most supreme Ruler and Owner over all creatures, visible and invisible, including every sinner, and to His power every knee of heaven and earth and the underworld bows (Ex. 45:23; Rom. 14:11; Phil. 2:10). The holy angels fulfill His will with all zeal and obedience; holy people obey His command with zeal, fear and love; the terrible demons of His power tremble, and all animate creation, such as cattle, animals, birds, fish, etc., moving and soulless, such as the sun, moon, stars, fire, etc., do His will (Ps. 148:8), and everything serves Him (Ps. 119:91). Only the sinner does not want to submit to His highest authority, for he does not want to listen to Him and fulfill His holy commands. God says to everyone: turn away from evil and do good (Ps. 33:15), - but the insensitive sinner does not heed Him, but does the opposite of this, deviates from good and does evil, and so shamelessly and lawlessly despises His terrible power.
