Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers Cosmas and Damian · St Theodota, Mother of Cosmas and Damian

Дневник 1864 г.

Machine translation from the original · Show original
You shouldn't follow your boss' whims. 1864 How long will we rely on bread and the moisture of the earth and bind our hearts with them and tear them away from God? Is this reasonable and what is it consistent with? How long will we love sweets, that is, I? I see that this is harmful to the soul, and I continue to do what is directly harmful. Do not pursue manifold temptations and do not become discouraged by them. If, when you are tempted, you grieve because you have been ashamed before people, then you expose an ambitious spirit in yourself. Sorrow that God has been angered, for example, by gluttony, silence when it is necessary to speak, to expose a person. Don't drink a single glass too much. How long to play eating and drinking - the most dangerous game; How long will you play with your heart, which should be the temple of the Holy Spirit? You need to eat scanty and harsh food, low in fat. Psalm Have mercy on me, O God [Ps. 50] - lye 1, which is used to wash away spiritual dirt - sins, a broom that sweeps away sinful dust. How many times, in the crampedness of sin, have I turned to God with a prayer for the cleansing of the sin of contempt of the poor and anger towards them, and this stupid pride still remains in my heart, so that I can again internally and almost externally despise them! My soul is worse than any beggar - but I despise the beggars physically! Which poverty and nakedness is worse: spiritual or physical? Certainly spiritual. This is what it means to live in contentment, abundance, spacious housing, dressing with taste, and so on. Just look, you will chase the appearance, but you will leave the inner without attention, while it is this that has all the value. But man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Sam. 16:7). I am the work of God, I am His birth, He provides for me. So the hairs of the head are all numbered [Matt. 10, 30]. This is the most tender care, down to the smallest detail, so to speak. Humility is the foundation of Christian virtues because 1) because man fell with pride, from which the Son of God came to restore him, 2) because the Son of God Himself humbled Himself, becoming obedient even to the point of death, even death on the cross [Phil. 2, 8]. Who are we? And who will describe the humility of the Blessed Virgin? If you want to be a slave of Christ the Lord, then love your enemies, and do it every day. If someone spreads a stench in the room, do not be angry with him, because this is not actually evil: evil comes from the heart, and the stench comes from the aphedrone 3, and it is useful for the flesh, pampered with fragrances, to pacify it and let in the stench, so that it remembers its own stench. My neighbor's stench is my stench. When you fast, anoint your head (soul), that is, with tears of tenderness and alms, and wash your face, that is, your heart [Matt. 6, 17]. Pray with all your heart, and not with half, let it not sleep during prayer and not serve the flesh, that is, the old man. Praising the Lady, the Angels, the saints, firstly, we praise God, who acts all in all; secondly, we praise ourselves, for they are one Church with us and are always ready to help us and serve as the adornment of all humanity, its glory, its color. Unfortunately for us, there is satiety in one’s faith and dullness in faith. Irritability is absurdity, the spirit of malice. Remember how an irritable person (for example, you) gets annoyed at soulless things because they do not serve him the way he wants and do not obey him (you see, things do not obey), and he often hits and breaks them, hits inanimate things. Avoid irritability as an evil, absurd spirit. Do everything calmly, with reason, without haste. For the most part, people who are spoiled by happiness and naturally cowardly are irritable. (Remember that mens sana in corpore sanö 4 take some care of the health of the body.) Infinitely merciful and forgiving Lord Jesus! Give me the grace to be lenient towards weak and sinful people like me, let me see my sins and not judge my brother. When you teach others, don’t you teach yourself? Jesus Christ died for us - we will die for sin, for carnal sinful life, we will die for Him for the sake of worldly sweets: for sweet tea, pies, wine, jam. Elitsa [Russian: all of us] we are baptized into Christ Jesus, we are baptized into His death... so that we may begin to walk in newness of life [Rom. 6, 3 – 4]. Just as sin enters the soul with a moment of thought, so with the same moment of thought about its falsity, drive it out of the heart. For example, your heart will be darkened by a momentary evil thought about one of your neighbors and will hurt you: in order to recover from this heart ulcer, tell yourself in the depths of your soul that this momentary thought is a lie, nothing, and your confusion will disappear. Where is the best, purified, holy humanity that has lived out its time on earth and passed away? - In heaven he enjoys his abiding, 5 never-ending life and from there extends a helping hand to his brothers still wandering on earth - for example, our Lady Theotokos, the apostles, saints (St. Nicholas), martyrs, saints, unmercenaries. Where will we be after death? – Where we prepare ourselves: either in heaven or in hell, but certainly in one of them. Let's get ready. Why do we celebrate the saints, if not for our encouragement to a virtuous life and to motivate us to achieve eternal life? Oh, our nobility! We constitute the Church of God, the flock of God, the family of God, we are children of God. Who is the Head of this Church? - Christ himself. The head of the mental edifice 6 (that is, Christians) - the Mother of God - is from our own family, not the Angelic; the foundations, after the Lord, are the apostles, prophets, saints, martyrs, saints, the righteous and all the saints. [This is] the heavenly community we are in, and on earth we are in the community of patriarchs, metropolitans, archbishops, bishops, archimandrites, abbots, hieromonks, protopresbyters, presbyters, deacons and the entire council and all the laity. May we value our church, spiritual, Divine nobility, may we live in purity and holiness. Golden words, precious words, sweet words of the Lord's Prayer! You must pronounce them slowly, with feeling. In order for you to serve without stumbling in the church of God and in the homes of believers, so that you can teach the Law of God to people and disciples without stumbling, shamelessly, sensibly, with power, call upon in the simplicity of your heart the Mother of God, the merciful and quick Helper and the quick Intercessor of Christians. God! You know how conveniently and quickly, on one thought, on one movement of the heart, on one word, Satan can stumble and hurt us. Protect us, Master, have mercy on us and cleanse our sins, Master, with the prayers of our all-pure Lady Theotokos. The soul penetrates the body, Christ the soul. Or do you not know that Jesus Christ is in you? (2 Cor. 13:5). We must remember this, believe in it and be bold, not fear anyone, but also humble. Let each one not only take care of himself, but each one also of others [Phil. 2, 4]. From satiety comes cowardice, timidity, addiction to food and drink, coldness towards God and neighbor; the heart grows fat. Oh, how quickly the Mother of God comes to the aid of those who call upon Her with their true heart! I called on Her during Matins at the end of the prayers of light read before the Royal Doors (I was confused), asking for peace and the unfailing utterance of the litany - and I spoke it beautifully, and was filled with heavenly peace after that. But in prayer to Christ, the true Light, he stumbled and again became embarrassed and wounded. Pray for those who offend you [Matt. 5:44], because through prayer you will turn them into lambs out of beasts, into good ones out of evil ones, and into babies out of wicked ones. Experience, but first the word of the Savior assures us of this. The character of the Christian faith is to forgive our neighbors their sins, their spiritual and material debts, because the Lord Jesus Christ, having suffered for us and died for us, thereby acquired the right to forgive us our countless sins and forgives, and commands us not to chase after the insults and mistakes of others, so characteristic of our weak, earthly, sinful, fallen nature. Love... covers everything (1 Cor. 13:4,7). To pursue offenses and mistakes, real or apparent, means to have evil in the heart and to serve the devil, who teaches and makes mistakes, and inspires evil, and produces malice in the heart. Remember, most insignificant one, from Whom you received everything and constantly receive it, and thank God for everything, for all the gifts of His goodness, small and great, so that otherwise you do not become arrogant, overeat and value everything to your own destruction, as Satan became arrogant and did not want to thank God for anything, dreaming of being equal to Him. Give thanks for food, drink, money, housing, for parents, for wife, for brothers, for sisters, for breath, for life, for the cleansing of sins, for sanctification, for enlightenment, for peace of soul, for joy, for sorrows, illnesses, misfortunes, especially for the most pure Mysteries of the Body and Blood, for the bath of rebirth 7, for anointing, for the gift of repentance, for marriage, for light, for air, for fire, for society, for friends, for relatives, for bosses, mentors - for everything and everyone. The devil has a habit of raising his hellish storm in our souls when we have to perform public service before the people or be in the company of people for a pious purpose. Most of all, he fights through our voluptuous, prodigal flesh and through addiction to food, drink, money, clothes and various material things. Therefore, while performing the work of God, we must consider everything as rubbish; We must also arm ourselves with goodness, meekness, humility and patience. Strengthen yourself at home in the morning with [sincere] prayer, and then go out to work. Word of God! Give me the word and take away from Me the wordless life, the dumbness of the passions, the dumbness of the tongue. Look, do not for a moment doubt to love and respect your neighbor, even your enemy, as yourself - may your heart not doubt, may your heart not be deceitful in the eyes of God, may it walk in the commandments of God, may it constantly turn away from the devil, his malice and pride. Remember, Christian, that you cannot be a slave of worldly pleasures and at the same time a slave of Christ: if you love sweets, you will stop loving Christ. So, do not like to enjoy teas, pies, wines and the like, but consume everything without partiality, without greed, like water, like bread, or better yet, prefer ordinary rye bread to all pies and sweets - it does not pamper the flesh, but strengthens. Addiction to sweets (tea, coffee, pies) is fornication, pride, because fornication is produced and nourished in the loins. You know that the enemy is tempting you with an addiction to food and drink and relying on them - wake up and take precautions and recognize the absurdity, the madness of your heart. Don’t trust him, despise him, and consider the bread as rubbish, just dust! A glutton is negligent about prayer, because his heart has become coarse from gluttony and does not feel the power of the words of prayer, their spirit. Therefore, the glutton prays hypocritically for the most part. Oh, how delicate our heart is and how we must protect it, it is gold! The heart's addiction to sweets is absurdity, to beautiful flesh is absurdity, to money is absurdity, to clothes is absurdity, to wine is absurdity, to magnificent chambers is absurdity (John's Desert [Matthew 11: 7 - 9]). It is right to cleave to the one God, 9 for it is good to cleave to Him alone; and cleave to Him completely, O my soul! Man, love Him alone with all your heart, and with all your thought, and with all your strength, and do not care about corruptible earthly things. He who clings to God naturally neglects earthly things. Remember that our soul is simple and cannot love God and flesh, matter, at the same time. She is heavenly and the image of God. Everything is from the earth, and everything is into the earth. This is the beginning and the end of everything on earth: our bodies, food, drink, clothing, shelters, money, books and other things; all this is not us, but we - our souls, our hearts, our deeds. Our bodies are temporary clothes, woven from earth by the Creator, 10 - all will turn into pus, stench and earth. Gluttony and drunkenness are fornication of the heart. He who is greedy for food and drink, who loves sweets and satiety, neglects true food - the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's an experience. Likewise, whoever is greedy for money is negligent towards God and the soul of his neighbor. Gluttony can destroy your entire Christianity, your entire faith. This is also idolatry. The heart of a glutton becomes weak for all that is good, deceitful, crafty, insincere in prayer, cold, the tongue of a glutton flatters and lies. Fasting is the essence of Christianity. Gluttony is the essence of paganism. Humility is also the essence of Christianity - from it comes obedience and patience. Merchants! You only sell everything - lay up treasure for yourself in heaven, not only on earth: you who sell materials for clothing, sometimes give to the poor as a gift, cover the nakedness of your members, for our neighbors are our members; give in return to Christ, so that you may receive from Him a hundredfold here and in the future eternal life 11; do the same for those who sell bread, meat, fish, fruit, boots or leather, keepers of houses or masters: do everything for salvation, show love to your neighbor in a unique way, especially to Christ Himself. Give us this day our daily bread [Matt. 6, 11]. But all of you have earthly blessings stored up not just for this day, but for many years - share with those in need of daily food, necessary clothing, and housing. All foodstuffs, all simple and rich bread, all cow and vegetable oils, all wines, all fruits - earthly dirt, earthly mucus, earthly dust, like our very body - so, despise everything, that is, do not cling to anything with your heart, do not regret anything, but be diligent about souls, things that are immortal: 12 about your own and about the souls of others who come into contact with us. When raising children, we work not for the present, but for the future of children (words of tutor Fyodor Maksimovich Govenius); out of a student one must first make a man, and then a scientist (him). (I must achieve this by studying sacred history.) The beauty and splendor of human members is the beauty and splendor of Christ's members. Whoever dishonors his own members or those of others, dishonors their artist - the most pure Christ God - and will be punished by Him. Christians must recognize themselves as members of Christ and keep their bodies pure and holy. Do not give in to the enemy, who is trying to draw you into sinful abominations, calling on the Savior for help. How many times, O my Master, Lord, the source of life, have I offended You with my attachment to earthly things, to what is earth, dust, dirt, stench, what is lifeless, dead, contrary to my nature, incompatible with it! How many times have I insulted and perverted my immortal spirit by attachment to the perishable! God! My food, my drinks, my body - the earth on which I walk, the future stench, which I so disgust, which I so despise, which I am so alien to as unusual and alien to me, for I must be the spiritual fragrance of the shrine. In a word, food, drink, money, my body is not me, but something alien to me, temporary heaviness, temporary shackles given to me for my humility, so that I remember that I am earth, flesh and blood, that my soul is the Divine breath of the infinite Master, that everything is for me the Lord, who brought me from non-existence into existence, and I am nothing. Forgive me, O my Lord, that I have hitherto become attached to the perishable, and teach me from now on to despise the flesh, for it passes away, but be careful about the souls, things that are immortal. I am completely a sinner, always a sinner - but I don’t stop loving myself, I still love myself. Likewise, do not stop loving your neighbor, despite his sins and weaknesses, for it is said: love your neighbor as yourself [Mk. 12, 31 ]; Love him even more the more spiritual weaknesses you notice in him, for every passion is mental weakness and a scourge, first of all, for the one who is possessed by it. Sin is its own punishment, just as virtue is its own reward. But love all the more the meek and humble, the poor and humble, who bear the cross of poverty and deprivation. God! Bless me to trample upon carnal and spiritual pride. Wake up. Sinful pride is the cause of dislike for God and neighbor, all spiritual disturbances, all passions. Christ is in all things and in all [Col. 3, 11]. And the devil is a dream 13, a ghost, nothing. The One Existing 14th, all in all, His shrine. Not to us... not to us, but to Your name give glory [Ps. 113, 9]. Don't know much, but do a lot. Having found out, [do it]. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Therefore be ye perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect [Matt. 5, 48]. He who believes in Me, the works that I do will he do also, and greater works than these will he do [Jn. 14, 12]. When composing catechetical conversations, the sweets of food and drink must be rejected and fasted for the sake of God, so that He may dwell in your heart, and you will become a scribe’s cane and a scribbler [Ps. 44, 2]. From now on you must say to yourself: My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to complete His work [Jn. 4, 34]. My flesh is a many-headed monster, evil, proud, contemptuous, blasphemous (regarding God, and saints, and neighbors), self-praising, blind, insane, absurd, unclean, greedy, envious, stingy, cowardly, impatient, hasty, murmuring, earth-loving, disobedient, rude, snarling, completely hostile not only to God and neighbor, but also to myself. O our most beloved Savior! How innumerably much You have done for us with Your coming, Your suffering and death for us! If it weren’t for you, we would have died forever from this monster. We will surrender our entire life to Christ God - that is, we will deny ourselves and surrender to Christ God, the Savior and Renewer. I must constantly go against myself, against my heart, against my old man, against my carnal wisdom. The heart clings, for example, to everyday sweets, greedily for them - I must trample on sweets and value sugar, honey, cream, butter, milk, pies, meat, jams, fruits, consider them for sand, dust, mucus and not spare them for anyone, just as I don’t spare anyone sand and dust, for all this is earth, dust, like my body. Who is capable of this? A sincere believer that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Do not clog your stomach with excess in food and drink. Pay close attention to yourself. Remember that in connection with the stomach is the heart, the temple of the Holy Spirit. The heart cleaves to beautiful faces, like to some kind of delicacy, to outfits, but it turns away from the ugly and poorly dressed, even despises them, as if they are to blame for being poor, as if poverty is an abomination, a vice; I must value appearance at nothing and, because of appearance, look into the soul of a person, which is the same for the beautiful and the ugly, the rich and the poor, the noble and the ignorant, the learned and the ignorant, the superior and the subordinate, the adult and the boy or the baby, and in every person I must honor and love the image of God - the rational, free and immortal soul. Let the worker eat, but the non-worker should not: otherwise food and drink will be harmful to his soul and body. The laws of the Creator are wise and vital. Thought, word, deed must be inseparable, like three forces of a single soul, like constituting the wholeness of one soul, like the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one. The thought, word, spirit with which we speak, or the heart with which we speak, is good or evil, for we speak either from a good or from an evil heart. Mind, heart, will must be inseparable. He conceived it, wished it, did it - only in a good attitude. And in bad times, you don’t need to think about bad things or desire bad things, so that bad thoughts and desires don’t lead to bad deeds. O pre-divine, all-creating and all-perfecting Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Soul, the beginning of our three-part soul, glory to You! Man is the image of God, a great being, and blessed is he who recognizes the greatness of his nature, its holiness and honorability and will live in accordance with this greatness and this holiness. Let us all flee from carnal passions, and love each other diligently. Love each other diligently from the bottom of your heart (1 Pet. 1:22), especially let us love our prototype - the Lord God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. But he who does not love his brother cannot love God. He who does not love his brother whom he sees, how can he love God whom he does not see? (1 John 4:20). Let us return to our primitive, holy simplicity through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior. The father deigns and plunges the seed into the mother’s soil. The mother animates and raises the seed, which then becomes a son or daughter. Oh, wonderful are Your works, O Lord, Holy Trinity! God the Father, the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary - and the Son of God, who came from the Holy Spirit and from Her temporarily and without beginning from the Father, our Lord Jesus Christ. Flightless is the Only Begotten Son from the Father, who also passed from You, Pure. How important, sacred, pure, unanimous the relationship between husband and wife, father and mother should be! With what respect one must look at their relationship, how sacredly, with what reverence! But at the birth of people there are two principles - father and mother, but at the birth of the Son of God there is one - the Father, Who is also the producer of the Holy Spirit. However, strictly speaking, even at the birth of children, people have one beginning - the father, and the mother is already a secondary beginning. If the father were not a father, the woman would not be a mother. The Mother is the revived and sown and fertilized earth. And the whole creative Trinity is the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit! Glory to You, God! Remember, every person, that you live in a world that is the work of the Heavenly Father, just like you; The Heavenly Father is the Lord of the whole world, as well as the entire human race; but just as He created everything with wisdom, He preserves everything wisely, that is, through His wise laws, and He gave people His blessed and saving laws, which we must certainly fulfill; By fulfilling them, we will be calm and content in this world, and blessed in the next century, and not fulfilling them, we will endure sorrow here, torment of the spirit, and in the future - eternal torment. Everyone who lives in the world of God must obey the Lord and not raise his head. Do not fight, 15 do not worry during services, or home prayer, or class from the slander and temptations of the devil, but be strong, pray inwardly and be at peace. Otherwise he makes fun of your impatience and performs various tricks. Do everything opposite to what your heart wants in your malice. Resist the enemy all your life and he will run away from you; and he acts like a thorn in your flesh. August 28th day, 1864. Every sin is directly opposite to the truth: it is not, it is not and it is not, while virtue is, it is, and it is (one is equal to zero, and the other is equal to everything). Just as the earthly church is the church of the glory of the Lord, so the entire universe is the boundless, miraculous church of the glory of the Lord, starting from Seraphim to the blade of grass, the worm, the insect, the infusoria. The essence of our hearts should be holiness, love, obedience, meekness and humility. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture [Ps. 99, 3]. We are all God’s, and we all graze in God’s pasture, not our own, that is, we eat and drink everything God has, - how can we spare anything for our neighbors who eat and drink with us, or be angry with them for that? They graze in God's pasture, not ours. Where did we stupid people get the idea that this and that is ours? What is ours? Where is the humility? What kind of gods are we? What kind of proud people are they? Until we consider everything earthly to be rubbish, which it really is, especially when the devil so seduces us with earthly things and through him gives rise to dislike, malice, envy, pride, and contempt in us? The bodies themselves should be considered trash. Let us cleave to the one God and to the soul of our neighbor, created in the image of God. And we pray hypocritically, and we live badly. Everything needs to change, everything is bad. All neighbors must be called nothing other than this: father, mother, brother, sister, child, child, out of Christian love, not excluding any beggar or beggar; we must completely abandon the views of an evil and contemptuous and adulterous and deceitful heart on persons and things, and we must gain the gaze of God. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). But we, our hearts, have our own views - the devil’s, our own laws - the devil’s, our own will - one with the devil’s. O my damned heart! O my deceitful, evil, contemptuous, insolent, sad heart! My gluttonous, adulterous, nasty, blasphemous heart! I despise you, I deny you, I shun you, I don’t want to know you. Help me, Lord, I can’t do anything without You. Whoever knows himself and denies himself, according to the word of the Lord: if anyone wants to come after Me, deny himself and take up his cross (necessarily following the self-denial of a nature corrupted by sin and opposed to all good), and follow Me [Matt. 16, 24; Mk. 8, 34 ]? Oh, how many crosses there are for those who go against their nature, rooted in evil! The cross of pride, malice, contemplation, adultery, gluttony, despondency and - you never know. Everywhere you turn there are crosses. All the people of God - and all the creatures of God: how can I, an insignificant, vile creature, despise anyone or anything? Ridiculous, insane, unreasonable. Why did I get the idea to despise anyone or anything? There is only one sin, my sinful flesh, my sinful heart for the sake of sin, I must despise, and besides this - nothing, let alone anyone. If during prayer or sacred rites you notice in your heart powerlessness for sincere prayer, hypocrisy, approaching God in words and not in your heart, then know that the devil is in you, and try to force yourself to warm prayer and heartfelt repentance for sins, ache in your heart, cry, labor in prostrations, with tears ask the Lady so that She, most merciful, I gave you a contrite heart and a humble spirit. Although it is very painful, it is necessary: this is what needs to be said about all the kindled arrows of the evil one and about the many different sorrows that he inflicts on us. These temptations show us to ourselves in our true form, and without them we would perhaps think of ourselves that we are righteous; In addition, through fiery suffering the rust of our passions is cleansed, our heart is cleansed, softened, spiritualized, and humbled. So, do not be faint-hearted and do not grieve when faced with various temptations, but rejoice. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations... [Jas. 1, 2]. The Lord punishes whomever he loves; he beats every son whom he receives [Heb. 12, 6]. From the throne of His glory, the Lord teaches us the commandment of love. The Gospel is a covenant of love: This is My commandment, that you love one another [Jn. 15, 12]. From His Cross the same one teaches a lesson. So, let us love one another, that we may be worthy of eternal salvation with eternal glory from our Lord Jesus Christ. And the devil, contrary to the Savior, forces us to anger at our neighbor and contempt because of every trifle, because of every slightest malfunction of our neighbor; therefore [one must] leave debts to debtors or admonish them meekly and lovingly. Remember these three commandments: love God with all your heart [Matt. 22, 37, etc.] and your neighbor as yourself [Matt. 22, 39, etc.], and do not attach your heart to anything earthly [Matt. 19, 21; 13:22], do not even have partiality for your own flesh, even if they beat, flog, cut, or crucify it. Learn to pronounce every word from a good heart, sincerely, simply, firmly, with faith. Christians are sons and daughters of God; with what purity, goodness, meekness and respect one must treat them and how to support oneself! Each of us must acquire our own vessel of holiness and honor. Have a Christian enough courage and spirit to deny yourself, that is, your heart, your corrupt mind and your will, or your sinful character. But you know whom you are rejecting - you are rejecting the hellish serpent that nests in our heart and has subjugated it to itself, you are rejecting your old man, which is being corrupted by its deceitful lusts, in order to put on the new [Eph. 4 22, 24], renewed in the image of Him who created him [Col. 3, 10]. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; The old has passed away, everything is new (2 Cor. 5:17). Behold, I make all things new [Rev. 21, 5]. Remember this. The secret member and the pleasure from its irritation and from the flesh 16 are given to people for the legal continuation of the human race and for nothing else, as the appetite is given for eating and drinking and maintaining life. Man is a beautiful plant, the fruit of the Lord the All-Creator, the work of His most pure hands. But he is also earth and ashes. The earth is ecu, and you will go back to the earth [Gen. 3, 19]. I am earth and ashes [Gen. 18, 27]. Learn to honor every person as the image of God in the simplicity of your soul, and then you will learn to honor the original, or prototype, the Lord God Himself. He who does not love his brother whom he sees, how can he love God whom he does not see? (1 John 4:20). So, honor the beggar, and the stranger, and the holy fool, and the unkempt, and the ugly in face as images of God, and do not turn an evil eye on their appearance. Everyone has the same appearance - earth, which will go into the earth. Truly, consider it happiness to treat any of your neighbors with something, who come to you as a son of God or a daughter of God. Oh, what nobility and greatness of a Christian man! Oh, what rubbish are all the precious sweets, all the treasures of this world, before him! Oh, how high is the virtue of love and hospitality! God Himself is love (1 John 4:8, 16). Out of love for us, God laid down His soul and commanded us to lay down our lives for people. Our neighbors are members of Christ and together we are members. Learn to love your neighbor as yourself, and from the hellish torment in the soul and body that immediately follows enmity towards a brother or stinginess, for stinging something edible for him, or money, or clothes, etc. My life is in the hand of God, my hope is in Him. Man does not live by money, food and drink alone, but by the Lord God: He is our life. I am... the truth and the life [Jn. 14, 6]. It’s over, there’s no doubt about it. And you, devil, are lies and death. Notice that it is now difficult for your brothers to live together: do not be stingy, like your members, in feeding and drinking them, they are of the same blood as your wife. And daddy is leaving: 17 instead of him. Don't listen to the ridiculous devil. Do not impute his embarrassment and drive him away: for the sake of the Lord, be patient. Until now, I, the accursed one, have not learned to look at the poor with true eyes, but I look at them with the false eyes of pride and contempt; Until now I have not yet learned to look at them as the needy, cross-bearing children of my God, as the least of the brethren of Christ, heirs of God, joint heirs with Christ: with reluctance I often give them alms (Is it to Christ with reluctance, or to the images of God, or to the children of God with reluctance?) and I am embittered with them in my contemptuous heart for the fact that they come under the blessing (after all, it is not mine, but God’s, and this is what I was appointed by God to teach everyone the blessing of the Lord and serve everyone in every possible way) and seem to take away my time (oh, an absurd excuse!), which requires no more than one or two or three minutes, and then when there are many of them, or as if they would stain my hand with their touch or bite my hand. Oh, satanic darkness! Oh, the malice and pride of the devil! How long will I have such a perverted view of man! How long will I consider a person in his clothes, in his wealth, in luxury, in food and drink, in his houses or elegant apartments - in this vanity, in this dust, and not in his heart, for it is difficult to find a true, real person living in wealth, contentment or luxury, and until I consider the beggars and the poor, alien to the charms of 18 wealth, money, rich clothes, houses, wanderers and strangers, to be real people on earth, who do not have where to bow their heads, like the Son of God, who endure the cross of hardships, oppression, insults, more conformed to Jesus Christ than all of us? So, consider it an honor to treat the poor and, in general, do everything opposite to your lying, devilish heart. Deny yourself, that is, your heart. Know God's will alone.
