Human! Do you fully comprehend what a great benefit the Lord is doing to you by giving you His Body and Blood to eat! This benefit is invaluable: only His goodness and omniscience know its greatness. But in order for us to appreciate it as much as possible, let us remember who we are, why we sincerely partake of His Divinity, and what fruits come from worthy communion. (You) on one side of your nature are flesh and blood, earth and ashes (stenchful pus): it’s easy to be convinced of this - just look at the human body in the tomb: what is it if not earth? And the Lord God does not disdain you and me; The Immortal and Life-Giving One unites with you, becomes one body with us. What is this connection for? In order to instill Divine life in our flesh, in our earthly nature, in your corruption, to make it alien to corruption, living and immortal. After all, you know that in the beginning we were created by Him incorruptible and immortal, and for our sins we became corruptible and mortal (having become the playground of all horrors, all the deplorable consequences of ugly corruption); through the communion of His Body and Blood, He again wants to make you the same as you were at first. In order, further, so that we, with our deified nature, can unite in eternity with the Source of bliss - God, and the blessed inhabitants of heaven and be eternally blessed. On the other side of our nature, we are fallen, sinful souls who, having extremely damaged ourselves by sin or disobedience to the law of God, have become alien to the life of God, which we possessed at the beginning, and have been subjected to passions that drive out of the heart love for God and neighbors, peace and joy and make them, our souls, spiritually dead. The Body and Blood of Christ is life-giving food for our soul, which restores its strength, instills in it love, peace and joy and makes it capable of eternal bliss in heaven - in God and with God. So, without the Body and Blood of Christ, you would be nothing but corruption, pus, food for worms, a playground of passions and an eternal martyr, never knowing, forever and ever, spiritual peace and bliss, since the source of our bliss is one - God; outside of Him there is eternal fear and torment. But now this corruptible body of ours, tasting the life-giving Flesh and Blood, will one day be clothed with incorruptibility and peace. You might be interested in:
