Ps. 40, [v.2–4]. Blessed is he who thinks about the poor [and needy]! On the day of trouble the Lord will deliver him. The Lord will protect him and spare his life; blessed will he be on earth. And You will not give him up to the will of his enemies. The Lord will strengthen him on his sickbed. You will change his whole bed in his illness. Do you see how the Psalmist pleases a person who is attentive to the poor and needy; you see how he favors him. Be attentive and compassionate to everyone who is truly poor and wretched. 12 tbsp. From this I know that You will favor me, if my enemy does not triumph over me, but You will preserve me intact and place me before Your face forever [Church glory: In this knowledge, because You have desired me, for My enemy will not rejoice over me. You accepted me for my kindness, and you established me before You forever]. It is so painful for a person when his enemies rejoice at his misfortune, and God’s help is so needed against such enemies. But to receive this help, we need heartfelt kindness on our part.
Ps. 41. Just as King David strived with his soul for God, so try to strive, my soul, for the mighty, living God; He will quench your insatiable thirst for anything earthly. 4 tbsp. My tears were bread for me day and night, when they said to me every day: “Where is your God?” My God! And among Your chosen people there were such ungodly people who mocked Your servant every day, saying: Where is your God? Oh, how hard this is for a pious soul!
Ps. 42, [v.] 4. And I will come to the altar of God, to the God of my joy and gladness, and with the harp I will praise You, O God, my God! I have the happiness of often approaching the altar of God and confessing to Him - not with the harp, but with my own voice and the voice of those singing and reading. Glory to You and thanksgiving for the fact that You have given me David’s happiness, even greater than his.
Ps. 43. About victories as the work of God and defeat as punishment from God.
Ps. 44. Prophetic about Christ and the Mother of God.
Ps. 45, [v.2–3]. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in troubles, therefore we will not fear, even though the earth shakes. Those who trust in the Lord are not afraid of anything, even if the earth collapses, because the Lord is omnipotent and [...] delivers the pious from adversity. 7 tbsp. The nations roared; The kingdoms moved: [the Most High] gave His voice, and the earth melted. Yes, when the Most High gives His voice, then everything will tremble. Even the righteous tremble when God speaks to them. All people, all the kingdoms of the earth, the whole earth are mere insignificance before God. How exalted is the name of the One, His confession on earth and in heaven! [Ps. 148:13]. 9[-10 v.] Come and see the deeds of the Lord - what devastation He caused on the earth: stopping the battle to the ends of the earth, he crushed the bow and broke the spear, and burned the chariots with fire. Yes, the pacification of battles is precisely a miracle of God. The confusion and fury of war suddenly turns into the silence of peace. God punishes with war, but He also pacifies kingdoms.
Ps. 46, 3 art. The Lord Almighty is terrible, the great King over all the earth. And the king of the earth is terrible in his anger; Isn’t the Lord Most High, the great King over all the earth, all the more terrible? Yes, so terrible that at His presence the earth moves and trembles, and the foundations of the mountains move in confusion. The earth moved and trembled... [Ps. 76:19].
Ps. 47, [v.] 11. As is Thy name, O God, so is Thy praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. Since God is immeasurably great and His greatness cannot but manifest itself everywhere, in all the ends of the universe, His praise is given to all the ends of the earth: both Your name, O God, and Your praise to the ends of the earth - Your greatness, Your name, Your glory, especially amazing in Your truth, which rises throughout the whole earth and which is glorified by all earthly beings. 14th century Place your hearts in His strength. We ourselves are completely powerless for any good deed: how can we not put our hearts in His strength?
[Verse.] 15. He is our God forever and ever, He will save us forever. My God is not only my God from my mother’s womb and throughout my life, but also the God of all previous and subsequent people. He is our God forever and ever, that is, always, until the end of the age. As a Shepherd, He will shepherd us throughout our lives.
Ps. 48, [v.] 6. “Why should I be afraid in the days of trouble, when the iniquity of my ways surrounds me?” Why am I afraid on the day of misfortune? - Because I am a sinner, because my sins surround me like fierce dogs.
7 and 8 art. Those who trust in their own strength and boast of the abundance of their wealth! a man will in no way redeem his brother and will not give God a ransom for him [church glory: Those who trust in their strength and boast about the abundance of their wealth: a brother will not deliver, whether a man will deliver; He will not give God treason for himself, and the price of the deliverance of his soul]. No one can protect us from God’s judgment: neither brother, nor father, nor any person at all. Because they cannot even give God a ransom for themselves, the price of the deliverance of their soul, not only for others. 11th century The ignorant and senseless perish and leave their property to others. They have in their minds that their houses are eternal, and that their dwellings for generations and generations, and their lands they call by their proper names [Church Glorious: the foolish and foolish will perish, and leave their wealth to strangers. And destroy their dwellings forever, their villages from generation to generation, calling their names on the lands]. Indeed, the rich are insane who grow rich not in God, but in themselves, in their flesh, because they spend their whole lives collecting their wealth in order to leave it after death, against their will, often to strangers.
Their dwellings are like tombs throughout their lives. With their passion, they gradually smolder within them and with the stench of greed and avarice infect the sphere of society in which they live and act. Sepulchers are usually cramped, and the rich are oppressed, according to the apostle, in their bellies. But how unsearchable are the destinies of God: the settlements of such people are often long-lasting and villages and lands are named after them! This means that the final reward according to the merits of each will be in another world, or on another earth, the land of the living. 17th century Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases: for when he dies he takes nothing; his glory will not follow him; although during his life he pleases his soul [church-glory: Do not be afraid, when a man becomes rich, or when the glory of his house increases: for when he dies, he will not take it all, his glory will descend with him. For his soul will be blessed in his belly]. You bow down and cringe before the rich man. What does it mean? What is this for? Do you expect protection and benefits from him? So; but if he is a proud, insensitive rich man, leave him, let his silver be with him to his destruction!
Is he alone, like some deity, rich in everything, although not rich in mercy alone? Turn to God, or to honest labor, or to both, or to the kind and merciful rich people. It is a disaster if a rich man is not rich in mercy alone. He himself will see this on his sickbed, especially on his deathbed: the mask will then fall from his wealth, and he will see it as it is in itself - a pile of soulless metal, no longer good for anything for him. Only in his stomach his soul did not know how to please itself; but now the terrible hour of death has come: and he will not take it all, his glory will fall from him.
Ps. 49, [v.] 8, 9 et seq. “It is not because of your sacrifices that I will rebuke you; Your burnt offerings are always before Me; I will not accept the bull out of your house, nor the goats out of your folds, for all the wild beasts of the forest, and the cattle of a thousand mountains, are Mine, and I know all the birds of the mountains, and the animals of the fields, before Me. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the universe and everything that fills it are Mine. Do I eat the flesh of oxen and drink the blood of goats? Sacrifice praise to God and render your vows to the Most High [church glory: Devour the sacrifice of praise to God and render your prayers to the Most High], and call on Me on the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify Me." Truly inspired psalms! If the Spirit of God had not spoken through the mouth of David, he could not have said so majestically: I will not rebuke you for not properly offering sacrifices to Me. I see them: they are before My eyes constantly. No, I don’t even want the bulls from your house or the goats from your flocks. Although you call them yours, they are actually Mine. All my animals are oak forests, cattle grazing in the mountains, and oxen.
I know by the names of all the birds of the air - and the entire plant kingdom is inherent in Me at a glance. If I were hungry, I would not tell you about the satisfaction of My hunger - because the whole universe and everything that fills it are Mine. How divine and sublime this is! What does God want from man if He does not need our sacrifices, because they consist of materials taken from His own treasury? Here's what: thank God for His countless gifts to you, glorify Him for His goodness. Sacrifice praise to God. Confess that all your blessings are His gifts, and pray to Him so that He does not deprive you of them and go ahead: render your prayers to the Most High. And when He visits you with the deprivation of some good and you are in sorrow, then call on Him - and He will deliver you, and you will glorify Him again; and call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will glorify Me. [Art.] 16, 17 et seq. But God said to the sinner: in what way have you... received My covenant with your lips? You hated the punishment and you rejected My words back.
Look, remember, man, that you are not worthy to have the words of God’s covenant on your tongue if you are a sinner who hates instruction, and if you reject in words and deeds the words of Your Creator and Judge. 23 art. “Whoever sacrifices praise honors Me, and whoever watches his way, to him I will show the salvation of God.” Let us praise the Lord: perhaps, in the voice of our praise, God will reveal His salvation to us.
Ps. 50. Remember in what condition King Prophet David wrote this psalm and with what deep feeling of repentance he pronounced it before God. Don’t say it haphazardly, quickly, carelessly, without feeling the strength of the meaning of each word.
Ps. 51. Strong one, why do you boast in your wickedness, why does your tongue concoct lawlessness and untruth all day long? Why did you make your flattery like a sharp razor? Why do you love evil deeds more than virtue and tell lies more than the truth?.. For this, God will completely destroy you, tear you out and remove you from the place in which you live, and even your root from the land of the living. The righteous will see and be horrified and laugh at him, saying: here is a man who did not want to have God as his helper, but relied on his wealth and was strong only by his vanity. But I am like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God (and not in wealth) forever and ever. I will forever confess Your works and patiently endure Your visits, because they are beneficial to Your saints. Only pious people are fully worthy of the gifts of this life; sinners use them out of God's mercy.
They are not worthy of the place where they live, and that is why God threatens to uproot them, so to speak, like an unusable, dry tree, from the land of the living.
52 Ps., 3 art. and further. God came from heaven [Russian: looked] upon the sons of men, see, if there is an understanding or seeking [Russian: understanding, seeking] God. All have deviated, and together there was indecentness: do not do good, not even one. This is what God saw on His earth, leaning down to look at it - whether there were people on it who understood and sought God. On the whole earth there were no chosen ones: everyone withdrew from God, forgot Him, everyone became obscene creatures, no one did good deeds, not one of them, while man was created for this purpose, to do deeds of virtue, to seek and know God and to love Him with all the strength of the soul. What is it like to see the Father when children completely abandon and forget Him and, instead of the legitimate Father, cling with their hearts to illegitimate, imaginary fathers, for example, when they say to a tree: “Thou art my father,” and to a stone: “Thou hast begotten me” [Jer. 2:27]. How then can one not be God a jealous God, according to what is written: I am the Lord your God, a jealous God [Ex. 20:5 ]? This is holy zeal, the necessary fruit of holy love.
Ps. 53, [v.] 5. Strangers rose up against me, and the strong ones sought my soul, and did not offer [Russian: do not have] God before them. Who are these alien and strong ones? These are sins: the sin-loving flesh, the sinful world and the devil. They rebel against us constantly and never want to have God before their eyes. 8 tbsp. I will devour You with my will; let us confess to Your name, O Lord, that it is good. You can attribute this to yourself: you are eating a bloodless sacrifice to God; Always eat it willingly, and not involuntarily, with desire, and not under compulsion. You, further, have a thousand reasons to confess to the name of the Lord that it is good.
54 Ps., [vv.1-4]. Hear, O God, my prayer and do not hide from my prayer [church glory: Inspire, O God, my prayer and do not despise my prayer]; listen to me and hear me; I groan in my grief, and am troubled by the voice of the enemy, by the oppression of the wicked. Oh, how often should a person cry out with such a prayer! How many reasons for constant inner prayer! Every day and hour a person falls, sins, and when he sins, anxiety, confusion, melancholy, heaviness, and a need for mercy occur in his soul; then the soul involuntarily prays to God, the lips say, as if mechanically: have mercy on me, God! God, be merciful to me, a sinner. How we wish in this sinful sorrow that God would inspire our prayer and not despise our prayer.
Ps. 55, art.5. I trust in God, I am not afraid; What will the flesh do to me? A righteous, God-fearing person does not fear people, because his hope is God almighty and righteous. In fact, what can this flesh, this man, who himself is so limited in everything, powerless, do to me that he has no idea what will happen to him in the morning?
Ps. 56, [v.1–2]. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for my soul trusts in You, and in the shadow of Your wings I will hide until the troubles pass. Let this prayer of David be in your mouth more often. But with David’s prayer, have his hope. 3 tbsp. I will call upon the Most High God, the God who benefits me. To whom should we appeal if not to our eternal Benefactor, Who Himself commands us to call upon Him on the day of our sorrow? Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify Me [Ps. 49:15]. 5 tbsp. I am...among the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongue is a sharp sword. How Saint David perfectly described human anger: from human lips, it’s as if arrows sometimes rain down on us, and with their tongue they strike us, our honor, like a sharp sword.
Ps. 57, [Article 4]. From birth [Church Glav.: from falsehood] the wicked have retreated; from the womb they have been deceived, speaking lies. This is what people are like from the very womb. They are alienated from God, from faith and virtue, from motherly lies: how early! 8 tbsp. Let (sinners) disappear like flowing water. Here is judgment on sinners! They will pass, fly by, like flowing water that leaves and hides in the waters or in the earth to an unknown destination. [Art.] 9. Like wax melted, they will be removed. Just as wax melts from fire, so sinners will disappear from the face of God.
Ps. 58, [v.17–18]. I will sing of Your power and rejoice in the morning about Your mercy: for You were my intercessor and my refuge in the day of my tribulation. Thou art my helper, I sing to Thee: for thou art my God, my protector, my God, my mercy. Sing this more often with the hope, boldness and peace of David: and to you every day, every morning God shows His mercy and His help.
Ps. 59, v. 13. Give us help from sorrow: for human salvation is vain. None of the people is able to destroy my sorrow: give me, O God, help from my sorrow, sorrow for my sins. It was you alone who sinned, and not men [Ps. 50:6] – they themselves are all sinners; Forgive my sins and my joy will be fulfilled.
Ps. 60, 5 tbsp. May I live forever in Your dwelling (in the church) and rest under the shelter of Your wings. May God grant me to constantly, without condemnation, remain in the church of God and take refuge there on the day of disasters, under the wing of my God, and on days of happiness - to rest cheerfully and peacefully in the bosom of His love.
Ps. 61, [Art.] 2–3. My soul rests only in God: my salvation comes from Him. Only He is my stronghold, my salvation [church-glory: Doesn’t my soul obey God; From Him is my salvation. For He is my God and my Savior, my intercessor]. Both my soul and my bodily composition are from God. Who should I obey if not Him? He is my Creator and God, therefore He is my Savior and my intercessor. He loves the work of His hands and does not leave it to the mercy of the winds. 11th century Do not rely on robbery and do not be vain about theft; when wealth increases, do not put your heart on it. God once said, and I heard it twice, that with God is power, and with You, Lord, is mercy, for You reward each person according to his deeds. The Lord holds the whole world and all of us in His hand; the character of God's government is the mercy of God; but with all his mercy, He is just to the highest degree and will certainly reward each person according to his deeds. Therefore, woe to those who trust in untruth, who live by untruth and build their prosperity through theft, who set their hearts on wealth.
According to the judgment of God's righteousness, they will receive their reward here, and go there for torment.
Ps. 62, [Art. 2]. My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You in an empty, parched and waterless land [Church glory: my soul thirsts for You, since my flesh is a multiplicity of You, in an empty and impenetrable and waterless land]. What kind of land is this empty, impenetrable and waterless? By it we can understand this world, which, unable to satiate our soul with its objects, its pleasures, only arouses in our soul a strong thirst for some highest, unearthly pleasure. This is the God of our heart. 5 tbsp. So I will bless You in my life; in Your name I will lift up my hands. How my soul is satisfied with fatness and oil, and my lips praise You with a joyful voice [Church glory: I will bless You in my belly and in Your name I will lift up my hands. For with fatness and ointment may my soul be filled, and my lips shall praise Thee with joyful lips]. While I am alive, I must constantly bless the Lord for His greatest blessings to me, and in His name and to Him raise my hands.
This will be my blessedness, because during a conversation with God our soul is, as it were, saturated with a fragrance, as if filled with fat and ointment, and our lips joyfully praise Him. 7 and 8 art. We must remember Him on our beds, and learn about Him in the morning, because He is our helper, and under the shelter of His wings we enjoy security, we rejoice like chicks under the wing of a kokoshi 50.
Ps. 63, [v.2–3]. Hear, O God, my voice in my prayer, save my life from the fear of the enemy; protect me from the plans of the insidious, from the rebellion of evildoers... When we have strong enemies, then you involuntarily turn to God, the strong and righteous. 4 tbsp. Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword. The tongue is sometimes just like a sword: it cuts and overthrows the soul, causing it terrible pain.
[8-]9 tbsp. The arrows of the child were their wounds, and their tongues were exhausted [Russian: with their tongue they will strike themselves]. For a truthful and conscientious person, the wounds inflicted on him by the tongue of ill-wishers, like the arrows of a baby, are insignificant and harmless.
Ps. 64, [Article 3]. Hear my prayer: all flesh will come to You. I don’t know how to give divine honor to anyone but You: You are my God; You are the Creator of every creature; all flesh will come to You. 4 tbsp. You cleanse our wickedness... You are my God and Judge: if I sin, I am Yours, I am Your servant; You will cleanse me. What are you going to do with me? Judge me? But if you see iniquity, Lord, Lord, who will stand? [Ps. 129:3]. [Verses.] 7 and 8. He who set up the mountains with His strength, girded with might, who quells the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves and the rebellion of the nations! And those who dwell on the ends of the earth will fear Your signs.
Thou shalt awaken morning and evening to Thy glory. The greatness of God on earth is visible in the high, gigantic mountains that rise menacingly above the surface of the earth and sea; in the excitement of the sea or watery, unsteady elements; in thunder and lightning, and in the dawn of morning and evening. Anyone who observed and thought about these phenomena probably said more than once: our God is great.
Psalm. 65, [v.1–2]. Shout to God, all the earth. Sing the glory of His name, give glory, praise to Him. Earth-born, as creatures of the Creator of the universe, enjoying their existence according to the will of the Creator, as well as all other gifts, must constantly glorify Him: this is their true existence, their bliss. 3 tbsp. Tell God: how terrible You are in Your deeds! According to the abundance of Your power, Your enemies will submit to You. Let all the earth worship You and sing to You, and sing to Your name, [the Most High]! How majestically and solemnly the Psalmist sings, completely imbued with a feeling of the immeasurable greatness of his Lord. No pagan singer is able to sing such praise to his ghostly deity. What truth and sincerity in the words of the prophet king! 6 tbsp. He turned the sea into dry land; They crossed the river in their feet. Behold the omnipotence of our Lord! What a solemn truth! Our God, indeed, turned the sea into dry land and the deep river left its bed dry, giving the children of Israel the opportunity to pass on dry land.
Never has any singer of the pagan gods been able to proclaim such solemn praise to his deity, because if he sang his praise, then his song lacked the most essential element - truth. He was necessarily pompous in his work, since he had to invent something that actually does not exist. 7 tbsp. His eyes look upon the nations, so that the rebels do not rise up. All nations before the eyes of the Lord are like ants on an anthill: He sees all their deeds, all their thoughts and desires. What an incentive for a sinner not to exalt himself! The omnipotent and righteous Creator can snuff him out from the earth in an instant and destroy him, so that his name will not be remembered by anyone 51 . 8[-9] art. Bless our God, O peoples, and proclaim His praise. He kept our soul alive and did not let our foot falter. He who confesses the true God has every right to cry out like this: the feeling of true greatness and omnipotence in him is so strong that it cannot but be expressed in the desire that all nations who do not know Him would recognize and bless Him, who has preserved the life of our souls.
A pagan cannot say this justly. One Living, true God can deliver us from death and give us life. Further, the Psalmist says that God visited him in sorrow and then brought him to rest, that for this he will be grateful to Him: he will enter His house with a burnt offering and offer his prayers to Him. He confesses that he walked rightly with God and there was no unrighteousness in his heart. Then he blesses God, who did not reject his prayer and did not deprive him of His mercy.
Ps. 66, [Article 2]. God, be merciful to us and bless us, and enlighten your face on us and have mercy... God forbid that the Lord should leave anyone completely: such a person disappears like smoke; Just as we exist by the grace of God, so because of His wrath we can become like nothing, even worse. Therefore, it is necessary that the omnipotent and righteous Lord not darken His face on us, but continue His mercies to us (have mercy on us) - in His blessing, in His fatherly bounties (God, be gracious to us and bless us). 4 tbsp. and further. Let the nations praise You, O God; may all nations praise you. Let the nations rejoice and rejoice, for You judge the nations righteously and rule over the nations on earth [Church Glorious: Let all people confess to You, O God, let all people confess to You. Let the nations be glad and rejoice: for thou hast judged men with righteousness, and taught the tongues of the earth]. May all earthly beings confess You as God: may they all rejoice at the thought of You, the righteous Judge. Everyone will receive reward or punishment according to their deeds. You won't hurt anyone. Even You Yourself instruct people what to do on earth.
Ps. 67, [Article 6]. The Lord is the Father of the orphans and the Judge of widows. What a high Guardian for widows and orphans! God, You never [Russian: when] came before Your people, You never passed by in the desert, the earth shook [vv. 8–9]. How majestic is the way of our God. The earth feels His procession and shakes: the rough substance seems to melt from the presence of the Infinite in essence and power of the Divine. 11. Thou hast prepared [Russian: prepared what was necessary] with Thy goodness for the poor, O God. The Heavenly Father feeds the poor like birds, neither those who sow nor those who gather into barns. 21. God for us is God for salvation; in the power of the Lord Almighty are the gates of death. Salvation is from God, but death is also punishment, from God. 22. But God will crush the head of His enemies, the hairy crown of one who is obdurate in his iniquities [church glory: God will crush the heads of His enemies, the top of the hair of those who perish in their sins]. Those whose iniquities are so great that they become, so to speak, higher than the hair of their heads, God will crush them, wipe them off the face of the earth, just as a man crushes a reptile with his foot. [Art.] 31. Scatter the nations who want to fight [Church Glorious: scatter the tongues of those who want to fight].
Yes, lavish them, so that Your chosen people may enjoy peace.
Psalm. 68, [Article 7]. Let not all who trust in You be put to shame within me, O Lord, God of hosts. Let not those who seek You, O God of Israel, be put to shame in me. Through me, O Lord, do not shame those who seek You in need. Show me Your help, so that their hope in You will not weaken if You do not show Your help to me. 8. For Your sake I bear reproach, and they cover my face with dishonor [Church glory: shame]. 10. Jealousy for Your house consumes me, and the slander of those who slander You falls on me. We do not have the happiness to endure reproach for the sake of the Lord. But we don’t know whether we, like David, would turn to God with a complaint about people who insult the Lord, or whether false shame would cover our face, and we would not move our tongue, losing heart. Are you consumed by zeal for the house of God and do you accept impudent blasphemies against objects of faith as if they were directed directly at you? 18 and 19, [20–21]. Do not turn Your face away from Your servant... You know my reproach, my shame and my disgrace: my enemies are all before You... I was waiting for compassion, but there is none - comforters, but I do not find them.
I ask You, Lord: do not turn Your face away from me. You see how I grieve and why I grieve: before Your eyes are all those who offend me; You see everything. 23, 24 et seq.
Let their table be a snare for them... let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see... pour out Your wrath on them... let their habitation be empty... for whom You have struck (the Savior), they still pursue, and the sufferings of those wounded by You multiply. Add iniquity to their iniquity, and let them not enter into Thy righteousness; May they be blotted out from the book of the living and may not be written with the righteous. But I am poor and suffering; May Your help, O God, restore me. Thus spoke the Only Begotten Son of God, who became poor for our sake. Woe to His enemies. 31. I will praise the name of my God...
Ps. 69. Hasten, Lord, to help me. A person is weak, subject to various misfortunes in life, so that he turns to God with a prayer for help and desires another world where there are no troubles.
Psalm. 70. I trust in You, Lord, so that I will never be ashamed... Be for me God the Protector and the Stronghold of my salvation... You, Lord, are my patience, that is, for Your sake I endure sorrows and misfortunes: You are my hope from my youth. I have clung to You from the womb, You have been my protector since the first time I let out the voice of an infant’s cry; I will always sing about You... I was a miracle for many: You are my strong helper. May my lips be filled with praise to sing to me of Your glory all day long - Your splendor (visible in creatures). Do not reject me in my old age, do not abandon me when my strength fails. My God, do not get away from me; My God! Be attentive to my weakness... I will always hope in You again and again and will add praise to Your praise. My lips will proclaim Your righteousness, Your salvation all day long... With what numerous and grievous sorrows You have visited me; but He also revived me, turning His radiant face to me, and lifted me up from the abysses of the earth. You showed Your greatness to me in all your might and, turning to me, comforted me...
My lips and my soul, delivered by You, rejoice in You when I sing to You. Among the disasters of life, the Lord is our best hope and help.
Ps. 71, [v.] 3. May the mountains bring peace to people and the hills bring righteousness, that is, may truth and peace be established everywhere. 11th century and further. All kings will bow to him; all nations will serve him; for he will deliver the poor, the crying and the oppressed [Church glory: poverty from the strong and the wretched], who has no helper. He will be merciful to the poor and the wretched, and will save the souls of the wretched; He will deliver their souls from deceit and violence, and their blood will be precious in his sight... 17. His name will be [blessed] forever; as long as the sun remains, his name will be transmitted; and in him [all the tribes of the earth] shall be blessed, all nations shall make him blessed. 19. The whole earth will be filled with His glory. Amen and amen [church-glory: the whole earth will be filled with His glory: wake up, wake up]. It has become, it has become. Now, indeed, all the kings of the earth bow to our Lord and all nations serve Him... Unrighteousness has multiplied so much on earth that in order to deliver the oppressed from it, the Son of God Himself had to descend to earth. In Christian courts of justice, He still delivers the poor from the strong, and the wretched who have no helper; spares the poor and wretched, delivers the oppressed from bribery and unrighteous judges.
His name is truly blessed from generation to generation; it abides forever and ever before the sun, because He created time itself, as the Creator of everything. Through Him all the tribes of the earth are blessed, all nations bless Him, and the whole earth is filled with His glory. Everything has come true. It has become, it has become.
Ps. 72. How good is the God of Israel with a right heart! Yes, the upright in heart know His goodness by experience. 9. The tongue of them (the wicked) goes forth upon the earth. Yes, the wicked will condemn everyone. 23. But I am always with You. 25. Who is in heaven for me? and with You I want nothing on earth. Ps. 74, [Article 4]. “The earth shakes, and all that dwell therein: I will establish its pillars.”
Ps. 76, [v.] 4. I remember God and tremble. Art.8 ff. Has the Lord rejected you forever, and will no longer favor you? Art.10. Has God really forgotten to have mercy? Did He shut up His mercies in anger? 14[-18]. Who is so great God... The waters saw You, O God... and they were afraid, and the deeps trembled. The clouds poured out water, the clouds made thunder, and Your arrows flew. It talks about thunder and lightning. The earth shook and shook.
