In Rome, the XVIII Bishop Anter was ordained, who ruled for one month, after which the XIX Fabian, who ruled for 13 years, was ordained. Upon Gordian's entry into Rome, Pupienus and Albinus, who had seized supreme power, were killed in the palace. When Gordian, still very young, having conquered the Parthian people, returned to his fatherland as a winner, he was killed by the treachery of Philip, the praetorian prefect, not far from Rome. The soldiers erected a monument to Gordian near the Euphrates, while his remains were taken to Rome. We translate the chronicle of Eusebius according to Jerome’s account, starting only from the Nativity of Christ, bearing in mind theological and church-historical interest, which the previous part of the chronicle does not represent. On the same basis, we consider it possible to omit in the translation the chronological indication of the years from Abraham, according to the Olympiads and according to the years of the reign of the kings of Judah (before the destruction of Jerusalem) and limit ourselves to Christian chronology.
