Jer. 19:1. Then (τότε) the Lord spoke to me: go and acquire the burnt vessel of the poor. Jer. 19:2. And they went out to the place of many graves of the sons of their dead (τῶν τεθνηκότων αὐτῶν 132), which is near the threshold of the gates of the Charsids. He calls the place where the Assyrian (army) was destroyed and many of the Jews were defeated by the Chaldeans as a burial place for the dead. So that the place would remind them of the previous good deed and the subsequent apostasy from God, he commanded to read in this place what the prophet had to proclaim. He sent him well to the place of sins, where, he says, they committed incense to Baal and burned their sons. Jer. 19:4–5. And the kings of Judah filled this place with the blood of the innocent and created the high Baal. According to the usual use of divine Scripture, altars are called high, and the idol itself is called Baal. Jer. 19:5. To burn their sons with fire, as a burnt offering to Baal. He speaks of another type of wickedness that deserves the greatest lamentation. Having accused them of having made an idol and were engaged in serving Pluto, after the defeat of Sennacherib, to this idol, he says, - the idol of Pluto - you offered burnt offerings, as if hoping to be above death. And what speaks about this is shown by the following. Jer. 19:6. For this reason these days are coming, says the Lord, and no one will be called this place of fall, and the place of many graves of the sons of Hiennon (υἱοῦ Ἐννωμ 133). And in the Hebrew (text) it says: the fall of Tophet, which means: the altar of the virgin, and (the words): the sons of Hinnom are explained by the fact that this is the place of the son of Hinnom. There is a clearer thought in the Hebrew (text) which denounces their wickedness. And the place of many graves of slaughter, that is, the valley of murder; so does the Hebrew text. Here it should be noted that the interpreters explained the multi-grave from the multitude of those killed. And what is said now about Tophet, the explanation of which is the sons of Hiennon, is clear from the previous one. Having said that, by divine command, he broke the vessel, he continues: Jer. 19:11. This is what the Lord says. So that the blow to him (αὐτῆς) 134 would not be healed, I (did not) give you hope of salvation, (did not) say: I will bring back the people, and you will not achieve captivity and the kingdom. I take away this consolation too; I cut off these hopes too. Jer. 19:13. And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, will be like the place that falls. That is (the place) where the barbarians who attacked the city once fell. Jer. 19:13. All (πάντες) the houses of the kings of Judah, like the place of Tophet (τοῦ Τοφέθ 135), for the sake of uncleanness (ἔνεκεν ἀκαθαρσιῶν), even those who created (ών ἐποίησαν) in all houses. Zhryakha (Ἐθυμίων) on his roofs to all the heavenly hosts. That is, even now all Judah and the houses of the kings will fall for the sake of the place of Tophet, that is, the altar of Pluto, just as those who attacked the city fell. And in the previous place he says: Jer. 19:11. And they will be buried in Tophet for this reason, since there will be no other place for burial. Since they highly valued the place and, revering it as God, did not introduce anything unclean, they threaten to fill the place with the dead. What Ennonichus reads instead serves as a rendering of the Hebrew text or the Latin translation. Of course, probably τῆς πόλεως, i.e. Jerusalem.
