Chapter 1. Knowing the danger of touching oneself, one must always be sober and be ready to thoroughly carry out the work of God. (Luke 12:35-40): “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning. And you be like people who wait for their master to return from marriage, so that when he comes and knocks, they will immediately open the door for him. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, finds awake; Truly I tell you, he will gird himself and make them sit down, and he will come and serve them. And if he comes in the second watch, and in the third watch, and finds them like this, then blessed are those servants. You know that if the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief would come, he would have been awake and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. Be ready, too, for at an hour when you do not think, the Son of Man will come,” and so on. (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2): “There is no need to write to you about times and seasons, brethren, for you yourselves know with certainty that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.” And a little lower (1 Thessalonians 5:6): “Let us therefore not sleep, like others, but let us watch and be sober.” Chapter 2. Every time should be considered convenient for carefully doing what is pleasing to God. (John 9:4): “I must do the works of Him who sent Me while it is day.” (Phil. 2:12): “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” You might be interested in:
