O what is this thing hidden from all created nature? What kind of mental light is this, invisible to anyone? What is this great wealth that no one in the world could completely find or take full possession of? For it is elusive to everyone and inconceivable to the world; it is more desirable than the entire universe and is as much more desirable than visible things as God, who created them, is superior to them. Therefore, I am wounded by love for Him, and until I see Him, I melt inside, and burning in mind and heart, I walk here and there with sighs, and I search for the scorched one here and there, nowhere finding the Beloved of my soul, and I often look around in the hope that I will not see my Desired One. But He, as if invisible, does not appear to me at all. When I, in despair, begin to cry, then He appears to me, and He who watches over everything looks at me. Amazed by the extraordinary beauty (of Him), I marvel at how the Creator, having opened the heavens, bows down and shows me indescribable and extraordinary glory. When I think about whether anyone can become even closer to Him, and how one could rise to immeasurable heights, He Himself appears within me, shining in my poor heart, illuminating me from everywhere with immortal light and illuminating all my members with rays. Embracing me completely, He covers me all with a kiss (ὄλον καταφιλεῖ με) and bestows all of Himself on me, unworthy. And I am saturated with His love and beauty, and filled with divine pleasure and sweetness. I become a partaker of light and glory: my face, like that of my Beloved, shines, and all my members become luminous. Then I become more beautiful than the beautiful, richer than the rich, I become stronger than all the strong, greater than kings and much more honorable than anything visible, not only the earth and what is on earth, but also heaven and everything that is in heaven, having (in myself) the Creator of all things, to whom belongs glory and honor now and forever. Amen. In P. r. this is the 16th word, and in Latin. translation Chapter 16 You might be interested in:
