Гимн 56. О том, что каждому из людей Бог дал прирожденное и полезное дарование чрез Духа Святого, чтобы действовать не так, как сам он желает, но как предопределено от Него, дабы не быть бесполезным среди (членов) Церкви Его 371 .

Just as everyone has his own (kind of) activity, but did not accept (it) from himself, but from [all] of us, of course; for a master for any (work), whatever he wishes, makes (his) tool and skillfully works (with it); therefore, one must not reap fields with a shovel, nor do carpentry with a sickle, nor build with a knife, nor dig with a saw, nor sew with an ax, nor chop wood with a stick, nor should one saw with a spear, nor throw with a sword, nor cut with a bow, but each (tool) must be used adaptively for each (work); if you use them not for what they were made for, but otherwise, then your life and all (your) action will be completely lost; in the same way, understand me, God created us (so that) each faithful person would do (his) works in life: He gave some to teach, others to learn, others to rule over many, others to obey them, and to some He gave wisdom, to others knowledge and the word, to others to prophesy, to others to speak in tongues, to others to perform miracles and produce powers, to others He showed them to be leaders - (all) these are spiritual (gifts). But let us also name other gifts of the Creator, which He gave to each people according to their dignity: (thus) He created one strong in body, another more beautiful, and another with a better voice than others. And in general, He gave each of the people according to their dignity and advantage, as He alone knows - God and the Creator of all, in an ineffable way, for useful activities in life. Therefore, everyone is suitable not for the craft that he himself desires, but for which he was created, and for which he has a natural ability and properties. And you can see The standing hymn is taken from the same Greek. ed. creativity Simeon; but this hymn is added to the end of hymn 47, which has also already been mentioned in one of the notes. Thus, in Greek. In the edition, this hymn does not have a special title, and, apparently, no beginning. In l. This hymn is completely absent, and in the P. R., where it is known as the 54th word, only the title has been preserved for it, which we used for our translation. Allation to the hymn of Simeon NB. were known in the same quantity and order as in P. r. Therefore, in the table of contents of hymns given by him, the real hymn appears under the same number 54. It is remarkable that Allatio also lists this hymn without a beginning, but with the same words as it begins in Greek. printed text and with which it directly adjoins the end of hymn 47. See MR. gr. t, CXX, L. Allacius de Symeonum scriptis, col. 304D. (like) a swimmer who skilfully crosses the depths of the sea and has much more fun (from this) than a rider on a fast horse, (so) and a farmer who cuts the furrows of the earth with a plow and considers a pair of working oxen much better than the royal fours; That’s why he rejoices, comforted by (his) good hopes. The warrior, on the contrary, considers himself superior to all farmers and sailors and artisans and, as one possessing glory, is proud, going to the slaughter and [having] die an untimely death. Therefore, it will be completely intolerable for him to either row an oar, or hold a spade, or become a carpenter, or a shipbuilder, or a farmer or plowman; he will not want to be. But everyone, as I said, will act in the kind of activity that he received from God. Otherwise, a person absolutely cannot do anything in this life, nor [even] wish to start (a business). For behold, I tell you again, as I said before, that it is more impossible than ever that (any) of all the mentioned tools should spontaneously move for action or act without the hand of a person taking and making something with it; so a person without the hand of the Divine cannot think or do anything good. For the Artist-Word arranged me (also) as He Himself wished, and placed me in the world. So, tell me, how can I think of anything, or do anything, or generally act without Divine power? He who gave me the mind, which, of course, He wanted, Himself gives me the ability to think about what He knows is useful, and gives me the strength to act as He pleases. So, if I do this (the latter), then He will, of course, give more and philanthropically give us wisdom about something more perfect. If I neglect even this very little, then I will truly righteously lose what was entrusted to me from God the Giver and will become an ineffective and useless instrument, like one who did not want to do the commandments of the Creator, but gave himself over to laziness and negligence. That is why I am rejected from the hands of the Master, for, having tasted disobedience to Him and disobedience, I was expelled from the true paradise, becoming far from God and from the hands of the saints. So, having found me lying and completely given over to inaction in good, the all-evil serpent flatteringly made (me) obscene through all sorts of dishonest deeds, in which I seemed to enjoy and rejoice, instead of which I should have been sad, crying and sobbing, since voluntarily, unfortunate, I retreated from what I was created to act for, and spontaneously gave myself up to everything unnatural, falling in the most unfortunate way into the nasty hands of the enemy, by whom I am completely held and moved, not being able, pathetic, to resist him. For how could I resist if I was dead? Cunningly deceived, I, the unfortunate one, became the organ of all vice, all lawlessness and a skillful instrument of evil deeds. For, holding me in his hand and strongly attracting me, he (the serpent) desecrated me with atrocities and all kinds of impurities, plunging me into acute stench and forcing me, oh, insensibility, to revel in them: theft, envy and unjust murders, curses, anger and, to put it briefly, he found me acting in every kind of vice, or better yet, he took advantage of me, although I did not want to. Since then, since I voluntarily rejected the hands of God and His saints, the terrible prince-strangler kidnapped me and held me in his hand, and despite the fact that I wanted, I could no longer stop doing (his deeds), but acted according to all his desires. For the sword cannot contradict the one who holds it, but wherever the one who holds it wishes, (there) he uses it. God, who created me, looking down from above and seeing me held in the hand of a tyrant, took pity and snatched me from his hand, and again brought me into the Divine paradise, into His vineyard, and delivered me into the hands of the holy farmers, so that I would perform Divine (deeds), cultivate virtues, keep the commandments and not move without the hand of the saints, so that the doer of evil, again finding me abiding outside the holy hand (of God), did not kidnap and again force me to do (deeds) to him. So, those kind and compassionate farmers, having received me and taken all my will into their hands, commanded me to immediately practice humility and repentance and cry unceasingly. For those who keep, child, these three (virtues) and remain in their good deeds, are soon, as if without noticing, elevated to glory, purification, dispassion and Divine contemplation, and are no longer caught by the hands of a hater, but receive from God forgiveness of all sins and together with all sins, and thus are made sons of the Most High and gods by grace and useful instruments, doing every good thing; It is better (to say) that the Divine farmers instruct others in truly good deeds, in deeds of salvation. Having believed them, listened to everything, and created, and into the hands of these farmers and servants of God, at His command, surrendering myself entirely, I found all (this) immutably fulfilled on me, and I was amazed, and I shout to everyone, loudly calling and admonishing and saying (for I cannot bury this in silence): those who feel that they are outside the hands of God and His saints, run, hasten and cleave to them indissolubly, with faith and ardent love and complete will, throw away all wisdom and your will, and surrender your souls into their hands, like soulless instruments, without creating anything at all, without moving or acting. Let their wisdom be yours (wisdom), and also let their holy will be fulfilled by you, as the will of God. And thus, having walked a short and completely unstumbling path, you will be friends of the Most High God and in a few days you will become heirs of the kingdom of heaven and ineffable blessings. For at the same time as you ascend to this right path, you will be numbered among all the saints, and He will make you all blessed. And for me, who have sinned more than all mortals and have walked this hard, narrow, short and safe path, leading to the breadth of eternal life, as I showed you (it), pray, all who willingly wished to walk along it and zealously follow in the footsteps of Christ, so that both I and you will be found to walk immaculately in it until the end of life; and those (also) who wish to see Christ - so that together, joyfully leaving our bodies, we may go to the peace there and to the expanse of paradise, and become heirs of that life. And inseparable from God and all the saints in Christ - the Only Begotten Son and God - the Word with the Divine Spirit, we will abide with the Holy Trinity now and always and to all ages of ages. Amen. The previous 55th hymn, as has already been said, is the last in the Greek edition of the work. Rev. Simeon NB. The original text is You might be interested in:
