Glory, singing, praise and thanksgiving to Him who brought all creation from non-existence into existence, in one word and by His will, to the God of all, in the Trinity of hypostases and in one worshiped being. For there is one God - the Holy Trinity, an essential essence, one in three persons and three hypostases, inseparable and indivisible, one nature, one glory, one power and one will. She alone (is) the Creator of everything. She, having formed me entirely from clay and given me a soul, settled me on earth and allowed me to look at the light, and in it to see this sensory world, the sun, the moon, I say, the stars, sky and earth, the sea and everything that is among them. She gave me both intelligence and words. But be careful about (our) word. So, in the image of the Word, we were given the word (that is, the mind), for the verbal ones are from the Word, beginningless, uncreated, elusive and my God. Truly, in His image, the soul of every person is the verbal image of the Word. How? – tell me and teach me. Listen to the word itself. God is the Word from God and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit. In the same way, my soul is in His image.
For, possessing mind and word, she has them essentially inseparable and unmerged, equally consubstantial. These three 284 are one in connection, but together also in separation, being always both united and separated (for they are united unmerged and divided inseparably) 285. If you delete one of the three, then, of course, you delete them all. For the soul that is unreasonable and dumb will be equal to the soul of the dumb; but even without the soul neither mind nor word can exist. So, according to the image, think in the same way about the Prototype. Without the Spirit there will be neither the Father nor His Word. The Father is Spirit, and His Son is Spirit, although He has taken on flesh; and conversely, the Spirit is God, for by nature and essence they are both one, just as the mind, soul and word. But the Father [however] ineffably gave birth to the Word. And just as the mind is from my soul, and better in my soul, so the Spirit is from the Father, and better in the Father, and abides and proceeds (from Him) in an inexplicable way.
And again, just as my mind always gives birth to a word, pronouncing and emitting (it) and making it known to everyone, however, it does not separate from it, but also gives birth to the word and contains it within; So, understand, the Father also gave birth to the Word, because He eternally gives birth; His Father is in no way separated from the Son, but is seen in the Son, and the Son abides in Him.
This true image, although it is not clear, has been shown (and depicted) by our word; but you will never see it or understand it if you do not first cleanse your image and wash it from filth, if you do not remove it, covered with passions, and completely erase it, and also expose it, and make it white as snow. When you have done this, having cleansed yourself well, and become a perfect image, then you will not see or understand the Prototype (yet) unless He is revealed to you through the Holy Spirit, for everything is taught by the Spirit, shining in indescribable light. (As far as 287 it is possible to comprehend the mental), He will intelligently show you everything mental, as far as you can see, as accessible to a person, as your spiritual purification; and you will become like God by carefully imitating your deeds: chastity 288 and courage, but (at the same time) love for mankind, patience with temptations and love for enemies.
For this is what philanthropy consists of: that you do good to your enemies and love them as friends and as true benefactors, that you pray for all those who offend you and have heartfelt love equally for everyone, both good and evil, and daily lay down your soul for everyone, for salvation, I say, perhaps one or, if possible, then all.
This will make you, child, an imitator of the Master and show you the true image of the Creator, an imitator of Divine perfection in all things. The Creator - listen to what I am going to tell you - will then send (to you) the Divine Spirit (not another soul 289 different from the one you have, but) will breathe into you, I say, the Spirit from God, and He will dwell and will essentially dwell, and will enlighten, and make light, and will melt (you) everything, having de-corrupted the corruptible and re-melting, I say, the dilapidated church of the soul yours. Together with it, He will completely deplete your whole body and make you God by grace, similar to the Archetype. Oh miracle!
O sacrament - unknown to all those possessed by passions: unknown to the voluptuous, unknown to the lovers of glory, unknown to the proud, truly unknown to the angry, unknown to the vindictive, unknown to the carnal, unknown to the lovers of money, unknown to the envious, unknown to all evil-tongued, unknown to hypocrites, unknown to gluttons, unknown to secret eaters, drunkards and fornicators, unknown to idle talkers, unknown to foul talkers, unknown to the careless, unknown to the lazy, unknown to those who do not care about hourly repentance, unknown to those who do not cry constantly and every day, unknown to the disobedient, unknown to those who argue (unknown to those who live for their own pleasure and according to their own rules, unknown to those who pretend to be something when they are nothing (Galat.
6, 3), unknown to those who magnify themselves and rejoice in the high stature or strength of the body, beauty or any other adornment, unknown to those who have not sought purity of heart) 290, unknown to those who do not ask with warmth of heart and with fiery zeal for the reception of the Divine Spirit, unknown to those who do not believe that He is even now given to those who wish and seek to receive the Divine Spirit, for unbelief does not admits and drives away the Divine Spirit. He who does not believe does not ask, he who does not ask does not receive, and he who does not receive (the Holy Spirit) is dead; Who doesn’t weep for a dead person, since he, being dead, thinks that he is alive? The dead, of course, cannot in any way see or mourn the dead; the living, seeing them, mourn. For they see an extraordinary marvel: the dead - alive and even walking, the blind - thinking that they see, and the truly deaf - thinking that they hear perfectly. But they live, see, and hear like animals, think like fools, with insensitive feelings, in a mortified life. For it is possible for a living person to live, for a sighted person not to see, and for a hearing person not to hear.
How is this, tell me? – I’ll tell you soon. Those who live according to the flesh, those who look [only] at the things here and listen to Divine words with only carnal ears - all of them are deaf, blind and dead in the Spirit. For they were not born at all from God, so that they could live; and they did not receive the Spirit, nor did they receive sight with their eyes, nor did they see the Divine Light; and since He was (not at all) created, they remained completely deaf. How, tell me, are these called Christians? - Listen to the Divine Paul, who clearly reveals this to you, better than Christ, who says: the first man was created from the earth, of course, earthly, but the second man came down from heaven (I Cor. 15:47). Listen to what is said. So, what is the first, earthy, (such) are all born from him - earthy. And what is Christ, the heavenly Lord, (such) are heavenly and all those who believed in Him (I Cor. 15:48), born again and also baptized with the All-Holy Spirit. Divine is the one who gave birth and truly God, such are those who are born of Him, from God the Gods by adoption, “and all the sons of the Most High” (Psalm.
81, 6), as the Divine lips speak. Have you heard the words of God? Have you heard how He distinguishes the faithful from the rest? How did He give His servants a sign and sign so that they would not be deceived by the speeches of alien teachers? The first, he says, is from the earth, since he was created by earth, but the second man, the Lord of all, came down from heaven. The first, through his crime, became the cause of death and decay for all people. The second gave the world, and even now gives light, life and incorruption to all the faithful. Have you heard what the secret place of heavenly (things) is telling you? Have you heard Christ speaking through him and teaching people what kind of people they are who believed in Him and showed faith by works? So, after this, do not doubt (at all), if you are a Christian, that as the heavenly Christ is, such you must be. Without being one, how can you be called a Christian? For if such is the Lord, (that is) heavenly, such, he says, are those who believed in Him, completely heavenly (of course); then those who philosophize about worldly things and live according to the flesh are not from God the Word, who descended from above, but, of course, from earthly man, formed from the earth.
So be wise, so be (in the mood), so believe and seek so that you too can become like that - heavenly, as He who came from heaven said and gives life to the world. He is the bread that comes down from there; those who eat it will never see death (John 6:33; 50-51). For, being heavenly, they will forever, of course, remain put off from corruption, shaken off death, put on incorruption and clinging to life; since they become immortal and incorruptible, that is why they are called heavenly. For who from all eternity, of the sons, I say, of Adam, was called such, before the Lord of all things in heaven and earth came down from heaven? He took on our flesh and gave (us) the Divine Spirit, as we have said many times, and this (Spirit), like God, gives us everything. What is all this? - something that I have repeatedly said 291, and I will say now.
He [the Spirit] is like a Divine and most luminous font; Having found those worthy, He completely embraces (and imprisons) them inside. But how will I express this, how will I again express in a worthy manner what happens? Give me your word, You who gave me a soul, my God. (So) whomever the Divine Spirit takes into Himself, He, as God, completely recreates, renews and miraculously makes a new creature. How and in what way? – Just as fire does not take over the blackness of iron, but imparts to it everything that it itself has, so the Divine Spirit, without at all participating in their impurity, as incorruptible and immortal, imparts (to them) incorruptibility and immortality. Being an unstoppable light, He makes light of everyone in whom He dwells; being life, He gives life to them all. As co-natural with Christ and consubstantial, as well as one-glorified and united with Him, He (also) makes them completely similar to Christ.
For the Master does not envy that mortals, through Divine grace, appear equal to Him, and does not consider (His) servants unworthy to become like Him; but he is comforted and rejoices when he sees us, who have come from men, such by grace as He was and is by nature. Since He is a benefactor, He wants us to be as He is. For if we are not like that, if we are not exactly like Him, then how can we unite with Him, as He said? How can we remain in Him without being such? and how will He abide in us if we are not like Him? So, knowing this for sure, strive to receive the Divine Spirit from God, so that you may become such as this word showed - heavenly and Divine, as the Master said, so that you may become heirs of the kingdom of heaven forever. If you are not or do not become here such, heavenly, as I said, then how do you think you will dwell with Him in heaven? How (do you think) enter the kingdom with the inhabitants of heaven, and reign and coexist with the King of all and the Lord?
So, strive zealously, all of you, so that we may be deemed worthy to be within the kingdom of heaven and to reign with Christ, the Lord of all, to whom belongs all glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.
