For you, God also condemned this disaster 5: because you, having had, did not give, because you passed by those who were hungry, because you did not pay attention to those who were crying, because you did not show mercy to those who bowed to you. And because of a few disasters come to a whole nation, and because of the evil deed of one, many eat its fruits. Achar committed sacrilege, and the entire regiment was beaten (see: Joshua 7:1–26). Zimri also committed fornication with a Midianite woman, and Israel suffered punishment (see: Numbers 25:6–15). Therefore, both privately and publicly, we all inherit our lives; Let us be attentive to drought, as to a teacher who reminds each of us of his sins. And we will blissfully say in the words of the courageous Job: the hand of God has touched me (Job 19:21); and above all, let us attribute our misfortune mainly to sins (1).
