Chapter 95

Song of David, when the house was built after the captivity. In the previous psalm, having predicted the rejection of the Jews if they remained in unbelief, in the present he speaks of the calling of the pagans, after the end of their mental captivity, when the Church will be founded in the whole universe. Ps.95:1. Sing a new song to the Lord. The Spirit commands the Apostles to sing a new song, that is, to proclaim the New Testament to the peoples of the entire universe. Sing to the Lord, all the earth... Ps.95:2. Proclaim His salvation day by day; because until the end of the world they will not stop proclaiming to us the mysteries of the New Testament. Ps.95:4. For the Lord is great and greatly praised. Teach, he says, the pagans; having heard, they will know, and having known, they will praise the Divinity and greatness of the Preached One. The gods are terrible above all. Most of all, the pagans are encouraged to fear the Lord when they see the burning of those whom they anciently called gods. For they knew that they were all not gods, but demons, and that there is only one Lord - the Creator of heavenly things. Ps.95:5. Like all the gods are the tongue of the demon. The demons called gods turned out to be crafty, and our Lord create the heavens." Ps.95:6. Holiness and splendor are in His sanctuary. He was “sanctified” by the Church; she is both holy and magnificent; for the decoration of the Church is sublime. Ps.95:7. Ps.95:9. May the whole earth move at His presence, because the sermon will be heard throughout the whole universe, and the earth will, as it were, move from its previous position. Ps.95:10. For he came and judged our case, and drove out the crafty tormentors, I mean unclean demons. Ps.95:11. Let the heavens rejoice and the earth rejoice. For the heavenly powers, rejoicing at the correction of the universe, cried out: “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth” (Luke 2:14).
