Chapter 90

The praise of the songs of David is not inscribed in Hebrews. In the eighty-ninth psalm, having depicted the conversion of the Jewish people, as naturally followed, we should introduce in the present psalm the person of the mental enemies who are secretly led by Christ and who overcome Him, that is, the principle and power, the rulers of this darkness, the spirits of evil and the most hated Satan. And these enemies in this psalm are called differently: “fear of the night, an arrow flying through the days” (Ps. 91:5), “things that pass in darkness,” “throwers and demons of the midday” (Ps. 90:6), “thousands and darkness” (Ps. 90:7), “asp and basilisk om", "I eat the lion and the serpent" (Ps. 90:13). And over all these enemies the psalm proclaims God’s victory to man. Ps.90:1. Alive in the help of Vyshnyago. The prophetic spirit pleases man, that is, the one who is helped and helped by Christ, Who is the Most High. And isn’t he blessed who is honored to have the heavenly God as his Patron? He will dwell in the shelter of the heavenly God. Whoever remains in this help will always be covered and protected. Ps.90:2. Says the Lord: You are my protector. Who says this to the Lord, except the person who has placed his trust in Him and is confirmed in Him in the work of his salvation? Ps.90:3. Yako Toy will deliver you from the net. Warns that this means opposing forces. Ps.90:4. His splash will overshadow you. Because the man of God said that God himself will deliver him from the snare of deceit and from the speech of rebellion, then the Prophetic Spirit, encouraging and anointing him to spiritual courage, answers: His splash will overshadow you. It’s clearer to say: He will hide you under the shadow of His wings, protect you with weapons; after which no opposing force will harm you. Ps.90:5. From an arrow flying in days. Now he called some kind of evil spirit an arrow. Ps.90:6. From cartilage and the midday demon. He calls the spirit of laziness the midday demon (ἀκηδίας). Ps.90:7. Thousands will fall from your country. The word "country" means the left side itself, and rightly so; because on this side, as he says, thousands are plotting, and on the right - tens of thousands. For whatever is right in our deeds, whatever is strong and wonderful in our virtues, many evil forces are directed towards its destruction. Ps.90:8. Look at your eyes both ways. You will not tolerate, he says, even the slightest harm from those who are malicious, but you will see the fall of your enemies. Ps.90:9. You have made the Most High your refuge. The Spirit of the man of God and the Prophetic Spirit, responding to each other, show how much benefit there is in trusting in God. Ps.90:10. Evil will not come to you, because the vicious quality comes from outside, and the virtuous qualities have a basis within us. “God create a right man,” and he, having sought evil thoughts, attracted malice from without (Eccl. 7:30). And the wound will not come near your village. He commands them to be complacent, because nothing unpleasant will happen to them as soon as they are convinced that an Angel is sent as an assistant to those who believe in God. Ps.90:11. Like His Angel commanded about you. He also said this in Psalm thirty-three: “The Angel of the Lord will encamp around those who fear Him, and will deliver them” (Ps. 33:8). But let us listen to what Patriarch Jacob also says: “The angel who delivers me from all evils” (Gen. 48:16). And the great Abraham, in encouragement to his servant, said: God “will send His angel before you, and take a wife for my son Isaac from there” (Gen. 24:7). Therefore, we know from everywhere that the God of all through the Angels protects those who have placed their trust in Him. Save you in all your ways. He who does not stumble in anything is guarded in all his ways. Ps.90:12. Not when you dash your foot against a stone. The word “foot” means soul, and the word “stone” means sin. Ps.90:13. Step on the asp and basilisk. Not only will you not tolerate any evil, man of God, but you will even see the whole multitude of spirits under your feet; why, without any fear, will you trample on their heads. Ps.90:14. For you have trusted in Me, and I will deliver you. He introduces the face of God himself, who promises salvation as the reward of faith. This was finally spoken by the God of all, teaching what the fruit of hope is. I will deliver him, says God, from all visible and invisible evil intentions, protecting him with trust in Me; For this purpose I will preserve it, I will hear the one calling, and I will accept the petition. I will cover and because I know My name. Not only will I deliver My servants from those who plot evil, but I will also give them endless life, making them worthy of My salvation. And our salvation is Jesus Christ, Who leads us into a new feat and prepares us to reign with Him. Ps.90:15. He will call to Me, and I will hear him. Having called to Me with the great voice of his soul, he will find Me listening to him and deigning to his request; because I am always with him, even if he is in adversity. Ps.90:16. I will fill him with long days, and show him My salvation. And this salvation is our Lord Jesus Christ himself, who leads us into the new age and prepares us to reign with Him.
