Chapter 6

Ps.6:1. At the end, in songs, about osmom, a psalm to David. “Osmy” means nothing more than the day of the resurrection of Christ, on which we will receive the fruits of our labors, when our enemies turn back with shame and confusion. David sings this psalm, as if he had been in repentance for a long time, which he offered for sin. Ps.6:2. Lord, do not reprove me with Your wrath. He asks to be delivered not from reproof, but from rebuke in rage, and not from punishment, but from punishment in anger. Ps.6:3. Lord have mercy on me, for I am weak. Every soul does not fall into sin until it becomes weak in strength. It implies that weakness that comes from decline in spirit and lamentation. Ps.6:4. And my soul is greatly troubled" - refers to mental strength. An expression showing the duration of repentance. Ps.6:5. Turn, O Lord, deliver my soul. This means that the Lord turned away from him, obviously because of sin. Save me for the sake of Thy mercy. For all our salvation must be attributed to the mercy of God. Ps.6:6. For there is nothing to remember You in death. Since my time of repentance has become long; then I was afraid, lest Thy mercy should be preceded by death, in which there is no place for confession. And therefore I ask you to hurry with mercy. Ps.6:7. Weary with my sighing. Let's listen to what repentance the king showed. He didn’t just work, but bothered himself with sighs, didn’t just cry, but washed his bed with tears, and moreover, every night. And he speaks not only about the past time, but makes a promise to do the same for the rest of his life; and the time that many use for repose, he devotes to confession. I will wash my bed every night. During the one night in which I committed a sin, I spent many nights, wetting my bed with tears. Ps.6:8. My eye is troubled with rage. Eye refers to the mind; because the mind is the eye of the soul. I vowed in all my ways. Here it means the time of suffering, which turned into his merit because it was long. Ps.6:9. For the Lord heard the voice of my cry. As heard already, a strong word is addressed to the enemies. To make a considerable journey to virtue means to flee and be saved from the community of the evil ones. For this is the fruit of repentance and the acquisition of tears. Or is it said abbreviated and means - grant that I can say to the attacking enemies - retreat, because I, who was rejected for sin, have been heard and accepted. You might be interested in:
