Chapter 43

Ps.43:1. In the end, son of Koreov, in the mind. Psalm. And this psalm has the same content as the previous two. The singers describe the ancient benefits of God and ask God to have mercy on them, because they recognize Him as their trust and confess His name. Ps.43:2. God, we are filled with hearing. Ps.43:10. Now you have rejected us, and you have put us to shame, and God, in our strength, will not go away. In ancient times, he says, You were our leader in battles, but now you not only do not go with us, but Ps.43:11. You brought us back, Therefore, we became a prey to those who hated us. This is what the prophetic host says, assimilating the people’s misfortunes. And those who hate us will plunder themselves. You have handed us over to shame. Ps.43:13. And there is not much in our exclamations. An exclamation is a song of victory. The meaning of the speech is this: so, he says, “you brought us back”, that few defeat us, and few sing the victory song over us. Ps.43:14. Thou hast made us reproached by our neighbor. They are given back everything that they did to Christ. They have been reviled, and they are reviled; they laughed and were themselves ridiculed; they nodded their heads at Him, and others nodded their heads at them. Ps.43:16. All day long my shame is before me. Our shame, he says, has become long-lasting and even incessant. Ps.43:18. All this has come to us, and we have not forgotten You. We have already said that the prophets bring this prayer on behalf of the people, appropriating for themselves the disasters that befell the people for their sins. Ps.43:19. And You have turned our paths away from Your path. They say this because for their wickedness against Christ they are forbidden to make the legal sacrifice. Ps.43:20. For Thou hast humbled us in the place of bitterness. They say this because they can no longer boast of anything: and he convicted us who have sinned in the world. And we are covered by the shadow of death, understands the darkness that occurred in the hearts of those who did not believe. Ps.43:21. I have forgotten the name of our God. They say this as if they no longer served idols after their final fall, or again, as if on behalf of the prophets. Ps.43:23. For Your sake we die all day long. This is similar to what was said: “Slaying Bysh with stones [v], despising Bysh [v], killing Bysh with the sword” (Heb. 11:37). The prophets, just as they internalize the sins of the people, also attribute their virtues as if to the face of the people, because they form one whole body with them. Or another way: because we did not believe in You, we came to such a disaster that we became like people condemned to death, or sheep being led to the slaughter. Ps.43:24. Arise, write off everything, Lord? God's great forbearance towards their sins is likened to sleep. Resurrect, and do not completely reject. Resurrect, he says, not in order to change in appearance, because the Divine has no appearance, but in order to move His power to help us. “And do not completely reject” both those who do and suffer evil, so that those who endure do not fall, as completely given over to temptations, and those who do, having been encouraged by the long-suffering of the Judge, do not succeed even more in iniquities. They beg for the coming of Christ for them in the last times, so that they too will not lose a part in the life given by Christ. Ps.43:26. Humble your soul into the dust. Our womb clung to the earth. They say this because they are not allowed to philosophize about Christ, and that is why they fell into carnal philosophies. Ps.43:27. Rise, Lord, help us.
