Chapter 32

Psalm to David, not inscribed in Hebrew. In this psalm, he teaches those who have already believed in Christ to praise their Master, revealing to them the superiority of His power, namely, that He is the deliverer of all, that He is the Lord, that He humiliates the wicked and scatters their advice, and saves those who trust in Him. Ps.33:1. Rejoice in the righteousness of the Lord. Ps.32:2. Sing to Him in the psalter of ten strings. He calls the body a ten-stringed “psalter” because it has five senses and five mental activities; for in each sense a special activity of the soul is revealed. Ps.32:3. Sing a new song to Him. It clearly says that the law of Moses has come to an end. Ps.32:4. For the word of the Lord is right, i.e. the word of the Gospel. One must believe what He has done magnificently. Ps.33:5. The Lord loves alms and justice. This is required of those who believe in Him. Therefore, he loves mercy for the repentant, but he also loves judgment for the inflexible. Likewise, Isaiah says to God: “Your mercy is upon Merilech” (Is. 28:17) ** “; because He gives alms with judgment, measuring weight and number according to the dignity of each Fill the earth with the mercy of the Lord. He begins to prove that the Lord is the Creator of all creation and, firstly, of the earth, which he filled with mercy, and which could not otherwise stand without being filled with it. Of course, the heavens would not have existed, as well as their powers, that is, the divine and rational powers, if they had not been supported by His Word. Ps.32:6. By the word of the Lord the heavens were established. Here the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is revealed. And through the Spirit of His mouth is all their strength. He calls the Holy Spirit the mouth of God, for the prophets who spoke to them said: “For this is the mouth of the Lord speaking” (Isa. 1:20). Ps.32:7. Gather like the skin of sea water. He calls on the water of the sea and, as if in a kind of bottle, contains it in the clouds, as it is said in another place: “call on the water of the sea, and pour it out on the face of all the earth” (Am. 5:8). Lay in the treasures of the abyss, that is, he seals the abysses as if in treasuries, so that the overflowing does not drown the dry land. Ps.32:8. Let all the earth fear the Lord. Let the earth no longer honor demons. From Him all who live throughout the universe will move. People living throughout the universe, hearing about Him, will move out of their previous state, in which they served idols, and submit to their Creator. Ps.32:9. As He spoke, and Bysha [v]: He commanded, and was created. Being indicates what is essential in rational creatures, and creation means changing them from worse to better. “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Cor. 5:17). Ps.32:10. The Lord destroys the councils of tongues, understand the “nations” spiritually. He sweeps aside the thoughts of people, and sweeps aside the advice of princes. For he made the plots of all the Jews unsuccessful by resurrecting on the third day. And this was what He wants and what remains forever. Ps.32:11. The thoughts of His heart to generation and generation. He understands the definitions that he deliberates for the present and future centuries. The “thoughts” of God are expedient orders, and the “heart” of God is the hiddenness of the essence. Ps.32:12. Blessed is the tongue, for it is the Lord its God. In these words he calls those who believe in Christ blessed. Ps.32:13. The Lord looks down from heaven. He said: “Look,” lest anyone think that the Lord does not know the daring enterprises of men. Ps.32:14. From His ready dwelling, that is, prepared, decorated. For heaven is appointed as a dwelling place for God. Ps.32:15. Creating their hearts together. God alone knows human hearts. That’s why the Savior said to the Jews: “What evil do you think in your hearts” (Matthew 9:4)? Ps.32:18. Behold the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him. “The eyes” of the Lord refer to the Lord’s all-seeing power, or often the Son and the Spirit, so that the Father of lights is, as it were, in the middle of two Lights. Ps.32:19. And I'm ready for hunger, that is, during persecution, when there is no spiritual food, the Lord himself feeds them with the Holy Spirit. Ps.32:20. Our soul longs for the Lord. They are presented as an example as having already shown trust in the Lord. More precisely, Isaiah quotes the words of God: “My mercy is on merilech” Editorial “The ABCs of Faith”.
