Chapter 120

The second song is sung by the people, although freed from captivity, but still returning only to their fatherland and making a long journey from Babylon to Jerusalem, why, caught in the mountains, begs for help; and the prophetic Spirit, having heard this prayer, answers: “The Lord will preserve your coming in and your going out” (Ps. 121:8). Ps.120:1. I lifted my eyes to the mountains... Ps.120:2. My help comes from the Lord, who created heaven and earth. Showing God's omnipotence, he says: “who created heaven and earth.” Ps.120:3. Do not let your feet fall into confusion; below you will fall asleep. Keep you safe. Have such hope, and you will be saved. And what is said, “He will take a nap,” does not express the tedious labor that awaits those who guard cities or herds, but the dispassion of the Divine. Ps.120:4. He will not sleep, he will fall asleep below, Protect Israel. Apparently, we doze when we are shaken by the inconstancy of everyday life and the malicious intentions of our enemies against us. Ps.120:5. The Lord will protect you, the Lord will cover your right hand. In Psalm 15 he said: “I have seen the Lord before me, as he is at my right hand, so that I will not move” (Ps. 15:8).
