I think that many times, more than once, you have experienced carnal sweetness. You know that every carnal sweetness brings heaviness, every earthly consolation entails sorrow, but you are always seduced by oblivion. Then you only repent when you experience grief and heaviness, and when the grief passes, then again you turn to the same thing, like a dog to his vomit (see 2 Pet. 2:22), wordlessly you turn.
