You must thank the Lord that He sends everything to you. This is for three reasons: to bring to feeling, consciousness and gratitude (1, part 2, p. 72). For everything that befalls us, sorrowful or painful, and sometimes comforting, without giving due thanks and glory to God, who lives in the highest in the unapproachable light, we are deprived of the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding... (2, part 2, p. 8). ...We are sad and forgetful, and because of despondency and forgetfulness we often cease to be grateful to God for His great benefits to us, temporary and eternal. “Thanksgiving to the one who receives,” according to the words of St. Isaac the Syrian, “encourages the Giver to give greater gifts than the first” 7 . Gratitude in a Christian is such a great thing that, together with love, it will follow him into the future life, where he ... will celebrate eternal Easter (2, part 2, p. 8). With God’s help, manage to arrange yourself in such a way that it is possible to adhere to inner struggle, which, according to the apostolic word, consists of four parts: Be patient with everyone. Always be happy. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in everything, for this is the will of God for you (1 Thess. 5:14, 16–18). It should start from the last one, i.e. with thanksgiving for everything. The beginning of joy is to be satisfied with your situation (2, part 3, p. 52). Gratitude from the one who has received the good inspires the Giver (i.e., God) to bestow even greater gifts.
