He who killed by will, and then repented, shall be without communion of the holy mysteries for twenty years. For these twenty years, he will be given the following distribution: for four years he must cry, standing outside the doors of the prayer church, and asking the faithful who enter it to say a prayer for him, while confessing his crime. After four years, let him be accepted among those who hear the Scriptures, and let him go with them for five years. For seven years with those who fall, let him pray and let him go. Let him stand only with the faithful for four summers, but let him not be honored with communion. After these are fulfilled, let him partake of the holy mysteries. (Ap. 65; Trul. 91; Ankir. 21, 22, 23; Basil Vel. 2, 8, 11, 43, 54, 57; Gregory of Nyssk. 5). This rule prescribes penance for persons who intentionally kill someone and repent of it. They must serve this penance publicly for 20 years, going through gradually established stages of repentance, namely: 4 years at the first stage, 5 years at the second, 7 at the third, and 4 years at the fourth stage.
