Both custom and duty require us to honor every Sunday and celebrate it: since on this day our Lord Jesus Christ showed us the resurrection from the dead. Why is this day called the first in the Holy Scriptures, as it constitutes the beginning of life for us, and the last, as it came on the Sabbath of the Jews. But when it happened on this day that there was a fast before the holy epiphany, then let us institute it judiciously, applying it to both cases. By consuming a few dates, we will not follow the custom of heresies that do not honor the day of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we will collectively pay tribute to the fasting day, awaiting the evening meeting, which on this day, by the will of God, takes place. And so on this day let us gather at nine o'clock. (Ap. 64; Trul. 55; Gangr. 18). We have already spoken about the rules of Theophilus of Alexandria and what they are made of (T.I, 40). This rule (1) is its general announcement about how one should fast on the eve of Epiphany, if it happens on Sunday, when fasting, according to the rules, is prohibited.
