In the sorrow that has befallen you, may the Lord strengthen you and help you endure with patience and receive spiritual benefit. Tribulation is necessary for us. For our salvation the Lord sends them in proportion to our strength, and no sorrow can befall us without the will and permission of God. Believe this without doubt, for this is the teaching of St. Fathers about sorrows. You should also rejoice when you see increasing sorrows, for they are considered a sign of God’s providence for man. Bear with humility, considering yourself worth everything, do not blame people and consider only yourself and your sins to be guilty of everything. Yes, pray to God, asking Him for patience and do not lose heart, for temporary sorrows intercede for eternal joy. For those who insult you, pray to God and do not wish them harm, as the Lord commanded. Don’t give in to despondency and always try to be cheerful and contented, this alleviates grief by half.
