I received your letter dated November 5th. True humility and spiritual poverty make one consider oneself unworthy of the Kingdom of Heaven and worthy of eternal torment, in which even the greatest saints of God considered themselves worse than any creature and thereby clearly showed that they did not rely on themselves, but on God’s mercy alone. If you do not have much strength to fight sin, then fight with all the strength you have, and the Lord, seeing your work and humility, will have mercy and save you. We must remember more often that it is not today or tomorrow that we must die, but there – eternal torment or eternal joy. Force yourself to the labors of salvation and endure them to the end.
