You ask me, a sinner, what should you do: answer my letters or, without waiting for an answer from me, write to me. – When you have questions of the heart, then write. I, a sinner, with God’s help, will take care to answer them to you as best I can. You also wrote that two years before entering the monastery, while falling asleep one day, you heard a voice: “You only live until you are 29 years old,” and you are at a loss whether this dream of yours will come true or not. In general, St. John Climacus does not order us to believe any dreams. But this dream of yours should not be ignored. According to the word of God, we all must always prepare for the transition to eternal life, and sick people like you should take special care of this. You should not be embarrassed by how you will appear before the Lord, such a great sinner. For the Lord came to earth not for the sake of the righteous, but for the sake of sinners, in order to attract them to repentance.
