St. Righteous Evdokim Voivode Eudokim, the son of pious parents - Basil and Eudokia, originally from Cappadocia, lived in the 9th century and was a warrior during the reign of Theophilus (829-842). He died at the age of thirty-three, and after his death, such miracles were performed at his burial place, “to describe which,” as a contemporary or close-in-time biography writer says, “neither time, nor words, nor hands would be enough.” God generously glorified the memory of St., who was not marked by any apparently outstanding feats and is remembered today by the Church. Evdokima. Doesn’t this glorification testify to how precious before the judgment of God is the inner, hidden feat of the human soul, righteously fulfilling its destiny amid the difficulties of the struggle that a person must wage, living among the countless temptations that surround him in the world. God alone can measure and evaluate everything that victory in this struggle is worth; He alone knows at what cost this victory is achieved, and glorifies those who have achieved it, as if to indicate and commemorate the fact that it can be accessible to all people who seek it with His help - and that no less great in the eyes of God is that person who, step by step, acts correctly and righteously in ordinary, not large, not outstanding, apparently even sometimes petty circumstances of his life, than those high figures who have had to show extraordinary tension of spirit and endurance in extraordinary circumstances of life, such as, for example, during the persecution and torture to which Christians of the first centuries were subjected, or among the exploits of a life of complete self-denial in the deserts... St. Eudokim was glorified for his simple life in the world, observing those ordinary duties to which he was called, and in general observing the commandments of God, alms, fasting, chastity and prayer. For his righteous life, he was loved and revered by everyone, known to the king and, appointed commander by him, was sent to the Kharasian country (in the western part of Cappadocia) to rule the people. And there, as the legend says, “he ruled all things well, did all things righteous, as if in all his life he was righteous before God and man.” And so, when Evdokim, who pleased God, reposed in his youth, the miracles from his relics “announced his holiness” during the lifetime of his parents, who lived at that time in Constantinople, and were for them the beginning of heavenly joys in earthly life... The very earth, taken from the grave of their son, healed the sick... At the request of the mother of the illustrious righteous man, his relics were transferred to Constantinople and placed in the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, created by his parents, where miracles continued to be performed from them. – In the same century, St. Joseph the hymn writer compiled a canon in honor of St. Evdokima. Pilgrim Anthony, who was in Constantinople in 1200, says: “at the pillar on the side of the Mother of God Monastery lies the new Evdokim in a silver coffin, seemingly alive” (p. 134). Saint Evdokim is also considered by the Russian people to be one of the patron saints and prayer books before God in various everyday matters. From Caesarea Cappadocia. She had a dispute with a man who had taken her property, and when she came to court with him, she was accused by him of Christianity. The judge asked her to renounce Christ and then take the property, but the saint chose to renounce the property and life. After torture, she was thrown into the fire (303 years). St. Basil the Great honored her with words of praise.
