1. “And you will say on that day: I will praise You, O Lord; You were angry with me, but you turned away your anger and comforted me” (Isaiah 12:1). We should always thank God, both when he is angry and when he is reconciled with us, because from such anger comes perfect reconciliation. 2. “Behold, God is my salvation: I trust in Him and do not fear” (Is. 12:2). By this the prophet points to a certain debt that we have repaid, and therefore have now become cheerful. And “I trust in Him”: God seeks this (from us) most of all. “And now... that you may keep the commandments of the Lord [your God] and His statutes which I command you today, that it may go well with you” (Deut. 10:12–13). “For the Lord is my strength, and my song is the Lord; and He was my salvation”: He not only saves, but also distinguishes and glorifies. 3–6. “And with joy you will draw water from the fountains of salvation” (Isa. 12:3). Other words are added here: “Rejoice and rejoice, O inhabitant of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst” (Isaiah 12:6). Call everyone, he says, as a witness, and show everyone, so that everyone will know not to be ashamed of Me, but to call upon Me freely. You might be interested in:
