Ps.63:1. To the head of the choir. Psalm of David. "At the end, a psalm to David." And this psalm has the same content. He describes the evil intentions of Saul, and predicts deliverance from them. Ps.63:2. Hear, O God, my voice in my prayer, save my life from the fear of the enemy. “Hear, O God, my voice; we always pray to You: take away my soul from the fear of the enemy.” Accept my prayer, Master, and strengthen my mind so that I will not be afraid of enemy attacks. Ps.63:3. Protect me from the plans of the insidious, from the rebellion of the villains. “Hide me from the multitude of evildoers, from the multitude of those who do injustice.” The Prophet calls a host a collection of like-minded people who agree to evil, and begs that he, as if by some kind of wall, protected by God’s care, become the winner of this host. Then he describes their various tricks. Ps.63:4. Who have sharpened their tongue like a sword; they have strained their bow - a sarcastic word. Ps.63:5. To secretly shoot at the innocent; they suddenly shoot at him and are not afraid. “Whoever has slashed their tongues like a sword, who has strained their bow, the thing is bitter.” "Shoot in the secret immaculate". They are weaving slander, says the Prophet, for the battle they are preparing against me, while I have not given any reason for this. For here he calls the innocent one blameless. Instead of “a bitter thing,” Aquila said: “bitter speech,” and Theodotion: “bitter word”; Symmachus translated: “They filled their bow with bitter words.” “In secret”: according to the translation of Symmachus, “secretly,” that is, using ambushes and lying in wait. This is also shown by the addition: “They will suddenly shoot him down, and they will not be afraid.” They attack suddenly from a secret ambush, without fear of the watching God. Ps.63:6. They confirmed their evil intentions, conferred to hide the network, and said: who will see them? “Having established the evil word for yourself, you have told to hide the snare.” Symmachus expressed this more clearly: “they established the evil word, they decided to hide the snares.” Thinking about my death, they thought and agreed on what tricks to use against me, and the words were confirmed by deeds. But they dare to do this, thinking that no one cares about human affairs. This is also shown by the addition: “Deciding: who will see them?” They think that there is no judgment over their deeds. Ps.63:7. They seek out untruths, make investigation after investigation, even down to the inner life of a person and to the depths of the heart. Ps.63:8. But God will strike them with an arrow; suddenly they will be wounded. Ps.63:9. With their tongue they will smite themselves; all who see them will depart from them. “Having experienced iniquity: the testers of trials have disappeared.” They focused all their minds, came up with all sorts of means against me, did not abandon a single type of intrigue, both openly attacking and secretly lying in wait, using spies, going around deserts, inspecting rocky places. “The man will come and the heart will be deep.” "And God shall be exalted". Theodotion translated this more clearly; it is expressed this way: “God will pierce both the mind of a man and the deep heart with an arrow.” Although they hide their undertakings darkly, they are obvious to the God who oversees everything, Who reveals His heights, subjecting such to punishment. "The infant's arrows caused their plagues" “And their nations were exhausted against them.” However, even though they used so much cunning, they did not achieve their goal. Just as arrows shot by small children do not cause any harm to those whom they hit, so their tongues did not cause any harm to those struck by them, but the harm was directed to those who struck them. “All who saw them were troubled.” And when they saw that they had been deceived in their undertakings, they were filled with confusion and fear and marveled at God’s providence. This is also shown by the following words. Ps.63:10. And all men will fear, and will proclaim the work of God, and will understand that it is His work. “And every man feared, and declared the works of God, and understood His works.” For, having thought about God's guardianship, they feared God's judgment. Ps.63:11. But the righteous will rejoice in the Lord and trust in Him; and all the upright in heart will boast. “The righteous shall rejoice in the Lord, and trust in Him.” Mostly, the zealots of God's laws, filled with joy, will be confirmed in their trust in God. “And all who are upright in heart will boast.” And those who direct their thoughts towards God and do not allow themselves to walk outside the right path will gain good reputation among people.
