Ps.46:1. To the head of the choir. Sons of Korah. Psalm. "To the end about the sons of Koreov." And this psalm predicts the salvation of all nations and foretells victory over enemies. Ps.46:2. Clasp your hands, all nations, shout to God with a voice of joy. Ps.47:3. For the Lord Most High is terrible, the great King over all the earth. “All nations, clasp your hands and shout to God with a voice of joy.” “For the Lord on High is terrible: He is a great King throughout all the earth.” This is what the prophetic word foretold, and together it shows that the face of the Apostles invites all nations to sing. For victory it is fitting to applaud, and shouting is the voice of the conquerors. Therefore, the thought contained in this psalm is in connection with the thought of the previous psalm. That psalm foreshadowed the victory promised after the storm and rebellion, and this one commands those who won the victory to proclaim a song to the Giver of victory, because He turned out to be for all of you, says the psalm, the highest, terrible King. And in ancient times this was known only to the Jews, but now it has been made known to the entire human race. Ps.46:4. He brought nations and tribes under our feet. Ps.46:5. He chose for us our inheritance, the beauty of Jacob, whom he loved. “Put people under our feet, and tongues under our feet”: “You have chosen His inheritance for us, the kindness of Jacob that you will love.” Instead of: “people”, Symmachus said: “kings”; and Aquila translated the words: “kindness to Jacob”: “the greatness of Jacob.” Therefore, the face of the Apostles says that it will be fair, clapping and rejoicing, to shout a victorious song to the God of all, who has subdued kings to us, and given authority over all nations, and beyond this, who has entrusted to us the kindness and superiority of Jacob. For not all the Jews who are called Jacob, but the kindness of Jacob, the excellence and advantage of Jacob, those who were adorned with faith, undoubtedly accepted the preaching and took upon themselves the good yoke of the Savior - these alone he chose and loved, and to them he entrusted the helm of the apostleship. And with your own eyes you can see the truth of this prophecy. You can see how believers from all nations fall to the apostolic shrines and with great love honor a small part of the ashes; and therefore, together, be a spectator of this and sing: “subdue the people to us and the languages ​​under our feet.” Ps.46:6. God arose with shouting, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. “God comes up with a shout, the Lord with a sound of a trumpet.” Yet the Master who did this, says the Prophet, became human and crushed the dominion of the tormentor, and then ascended into heaven, preceded by heavenly powers and angelic faces, who also cried out to those below: “This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will also come in the same way as you saw Him going into heaven” (Acts 1:11), and commanded those above: “Lift up your gates, O princes, and lift up the everlasting gates: and the King of glory will come in” (Ps. 23:7). The Prophet called such proclamations, as they swept across the whole earth, an exclamation and a trumpet blast. Ps.47:7. Sing to our God, sing; sing to our King, sing. Ps.46:8. For God is the King of all the earth; Sing everything wisely. Ps.46:9. God reigned over the nations, God sat on His holy throne. “Sing to our God, sing: sing to our King, sing.” “For God is the King of all the earth, sing wisely.” “God reigns over the tongues: God sits on His holy throne.” So honor the All-King of all with hymns and spiritual rejoicings. For He showed His kingdom to all people, assured all nations that He was God and Lord, sitting on the royal throne. What is said: “God sits on His holy throne” is in accordance with the apostolic saying: “I am seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty on high, having been better than the angels, more glorious than their inheritance name” (Heb. 1:3-4). The Prophet said beautifully: “Sing wisely,” teaching not only to pronounce chants with the tongue, but also to excite the mind to understand what is being said. Ps.46:10. The princes of the nations gathered to the people of the God of Abraham, for the shields of the earth are God’s; He is exalted above them. “The princes of mankind gathered with God Abraham: for God’s powers of the earth were greatly exalted.” The promises given to Patriarch Abraham, says the Prophet, have been fulfilled. The Lord of all promised Abraham that through his seed he would bless all nations. Therefore these nations and their princes, having abandoned the gods of their fathers, gather to the God of Abraham, and call Him their God. The servants of their calling became the divine Apostles, who, by working miracles, established the height of Theology. For they called seventy of them sovereigns, Aquila - shields, and Theodotion and Symmachus - defense. All these names mean not only their insubordination to human power and invincibility, but also their protection of others; because, having become, as it were, some kind of shields and champions of the believers, they did not allow the squad to be disbanded from the attack of disasters, but, having put the enemies to flight, they commanded the fellow believers to triumph, saying: “All the nations clasp your hands: shout to God with a voice of joy.
