"Song of Degrees". Those who have won this victory sing the song of victory and preach the power of trust in God. Ps.124:1. He who trusts in the Lord, like Mount Zion, will not be removed; he abides forever. “Those who hope in the Lord are like Mount Zion.” Protected by trust in God, like Mount Zion, it remains unshakable, unshakable, glorious and famous. “He shall not move unto the living age in Jerusalem.” A person living in Jerusalem must lead his life according to the laws of Jerusalem. For [the Lord] will not leave the rod of the wicked over the lot of the righteous, lest the righteous stretch out their hands to iniquity. “For the Lord will not leave the rod of sinners for the lot of the righteous.” God and the Assyrians through the mouth of the Prophet Isaiah called the rod of wrath. It is said: “Woe to the Assyrians, the rod of My wrath, and My wrath is in their hand. I will send my wrath upon the wicked tongue, and I will command His people to create covetousness and captivity” (Is. 10:5-6), i.e. Having used the Assyrians instead of a certain rod, I admonish the worthy. Therefore, here too the Prophet says that the Lord of all, in His righteous judgment, will not allow the rod of the wicked to be laid on the host of the righteous. Then he shows the reason. “Let not the righteous stretch out their hands into iniquity.” that is, so that those who care about what is proper, thinking that everything happens without order and without control, do not creep towards the worse, and do not derive harm from this. Ps.124:4. Do good, Lord, to those who are good and upright in their hearts. “God bless the good and right in heart.” Having demonstrated the truthfulness of God, he brings righteous prayer; for he begs that the good be worthy of appropriate rewards. The Lord also said this: “When you measure accordingly, it will be measured back to you” (Matthew 7:2); and: “the blessings of mercy, for there will be mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Ps.124:5. But may the Lord leave those who turn to their crooked ways to walk with the workers of iniquity. Peace on Israel! “But the Lord will take away those who turn into corruption with the workers of iniquity.” The word: “corruptions” Aquila translated: plexuses, Symmachus: crookedness, and Theodotion: corrupted. The Prophet did not ask for anything unjust, but for the good to enjoy blessings, and for those who abandoned the Divine path and resorted to intricacies to find an appropriate end for themselves.
