1 Timothy 1:1. Paul, Apostle of Jesus Christ, by command... of our Savior, that is, the sacrament of killing us openly and secretly turns out to be saving, – and... our hope – Jesus Christ, that is, in it lay the hope of all the pagans who were in a hopeless state. 1 Timothy 1:2. Timothy, my beloved son, and baptism, for he taught him. Grace and peace be with you, achieved through the gifts of the Spirit abiding in you, who made the pagans worthy, who called Him Father, although they knew Him only by name alone, – and from our Lord... Jesus... Christ, that is, from Him who is our Lord both according to the flesh and according to His divinity. when I went to Macedonia (Acts 16:1), to remain in Ephesus. Please note that the Apostle did not even give commands to his disciples with authority, so that he even humbly begged his son Timothy to do his will. Begged for 1 Timothy 1:3–4. so that you command - he says to those who adhered to alien teachings, - do not listen to fables and boundless genealogies, understand the teachings of Judaism, - and (not heed) the decrees of the law, - and so that they do not pay attention to the stories of their leaders - the priests, who, in their numbers and the great variety of their ranks, were like the words of a genealogical table. Or (he admonished them) so that they should not boast among you of their descent from Abraham and the twelve tribes of Jacob, as if they were innumerable because of their multitude. All this, he says, causes controversy in the Church, and is by no means a consequence of it. faith in God's economy: that is, there is no faith in them that expects reward (after death), for all their promises of gifts are concentrated on earth. 1 Timothy 1:5. The purpose of the commandment is love, that is, it is for the sake of this very love that all the commandments were established - and where there is love, there is no need for the law (Gal. 5:22–23, 5:14, Rom. 13:8–10, etc.). I mean love not only on the lips (words), but from a pure heart and... conscience... good, that is, not fleeting, which is not confused by any teaching (alien) separately and by all teachings together. did they retreat, deviating into vanity 1 Timothy 1:7. which one may not be and legislators, without knowing, however, the power (meaning) of the law and not understanding... what they say, because they speak against themselves, and they do not know but they imagine that they know the truth. 1 Timothy 1:8. And we know that... the law is good, if someone uses it lawfully, that is, if anyone knows his time (which was appointed for him) and understands the true mysteries written in his types. If they do not understand this and recklessly insist on fulfilling all his commandments without distinction; then let them know that no law was laid down for the righteous, both those who preceded the law and those who lived after it was communicated to the Jews through Moses. After all, by the same law by which those who preceded the law were justified, those who lived during the giving of the law, as well as after it, were also justified by it. So, it was necessary to lay down the law not for the righteous, who had no need for it, but for 1 Timothy 1:9–10. lawless people, murderers,... homosexuals and others like them, so that at least with the threatening punishments of the law, they can be frightened and deterred from committing atrocities. 1 Timothy 1:12. I thank the One who strengthened me in Christ Jesus our Lord stand firm against persecution, and faithful... me... recognized in order to entrust me with the gospel, assigning me not to that ministry which consists of making earthly sacrifices, but 1 Timothy 1:13. Me, who before... was a blasphemer... and a persecutor and an offender (Acts 8:1, 9:1, 1 Cor. 15:9, Gal. 1:13), - and now He made me worthy to endure persecution for Him, although I persecuted His church, and to be insulted for Him, although I inflicted insults on His servants, and I became His evangelist, although I was His blasphemer out of zeal for the law. So He had mercy on me and turned me away from the law because that's all in my life I committed against His church and 1 Timothy 1:14. But... the grace... of our Lord... increased with faith and love and love [which is] in Christ Jesus: that is, the faith that I persecuted increased in me, and the love of Jesus Christ, Whom I once blasphemed, was poured out upon me in abundance. 1 Timothy 1:15. This word is true... and worthy of all acceptance, that... Jesus... Christ came... to save sinners, just as He Himself said: “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32). His word has been fulfilled on me, for I am the head [first... of] sinners. 1 Timothy 1:16. But in order... I was pardoned, so that... in me, showed... Jesus Christ... all His long-suffering. After all, if He had killed me at the request of His justice at a time when I continued to blaspheme Him, then how would His grace have found me? But now He has called me and exalted me in Himself, to make me an example of sinners, who have faith in Him, so that they, like me, may gain 1 Timothy 1:17. To the king of ages, who did this to me, alive, who gave revelation through His Son to all nations, to Him glory... and... honor... forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:18–19. The same commandment which I now intend to give you in writing, I teach you, my son Timothy, according to the previous prophecies about you, so that you may fight... in them with good warfare, to do good deeds. By prophecy we must understand: either that a certain New Testament prophet foretold about him, that he was a chosen vessel (Acts 9:15), - or he was given a prophecy, - which is why he commanded him that, along with the prophecy given to him, the works corresponding to it were also appropriate to do in him, that is, in that good faith that you have accepted - and the holy mind that you possess. This is because some deny these good works, and do not have a pure mind in relation to God, and are deprived of faith itself. 1 Timothy 1:20. Of these, one is Hymenaeus and the other is Alexander. Denying good deeds and not having a pure mind, they were deprived of faith and did not accept it. Or they were believers, but rejecting good deeds and a pure mind, they lost faith itself, and subsequently even became strong enemies of faith. He also adds: whom I handed over to Satan so that... they would learn not to blaspheme. As he reproached Barsumah, the sorcerer and false prophet, who seduced him from the path of God, and said to him: “you will be blind... you... and will not see the sun until the time comes” (Acts 13:11), - so in the same way he betrayed those (Hymenaeus and Alexander) to the demons who entered into them; so that, being subjected to admonitions for previous deeds committed by them, they turned away from the blasphemy with which they dared to reproach our Lord and the children of the church.
