Since the apostle was concerned about fulfilling the commandment that was handed to him from Simon Peter (Gal. 2:10), that he should take care of the saints, that is, those who were subjected to persecution, as well as the baptized who were in Jerusalem, he wrote to them so that they would be partakers of their blessing, exhorting them that the Macedonians, in the persecution raised against them, willingly 2 Corinthians 8:1–4. with great prayer they asked us to give us the gift and fellowship of service to the saints 21 We wanted to leave them, because their own grief and the persecution brought upon us were enough for them. They are 2 Corinthians 8:5. not how we thought about them, but... ourselves... we also gave ourselves... first, to the Lord, then to us: The Lord, in order to die for His sake, and for us, because they prepared what we did not ask them for. 2 Corinthians 8:6. And that’s why we asked... we... Titus, so that... as he began... with you... so let him finish. Just as he came and made us happy with your obedience and the joy that you have in your sorrows, so let him come again and make us happy with your abundant alms and the generosity you discovered towards the poor, so that in everything you surpass every man. But 2 Corinthians 8:7. how you abound in everything: by faith, and with all our zeal,... and word, and... knowledge, and our love for you; so abound in this grace. 2 Corinthians 8:8. Not as one commanding [by order], I command [I say] to you, but through zeal for others. We wish to see the manifestation of your and our love, your hearts, in front of everyone. 2 Corinthians 8:9. And how... our Lord became poor from His riches, 22 so that... through His poverty... you might become rich, so by the poverty of the saints, accepted for the sake of Christ, you can become rich. 2 Corinthians 8:10. Since last year you wanted to do this, then 2 Corinthians 8:11. now do it As [what is your] readiness to want, so [this should be] the fulfillment from the property [of your wealth]. Not (think and do) that as much as you give, you receive as much. For if, due to poverty of property, even a little is given, but good will wanted to do this, then you have a lot; It is not the small gifts that you have in your hands that the One who accepts looks at, but the Rewarder turns his gaze to the generosity and goodwill of your giving; and He does not reward as you gave, but as you wanted to give (2 Cor. 8:12). I say this not because I wish you grief, but consolation for them. But 2 Corinthians 8:14. your obvious excess... let their shortcomings be transient, and their excess... will fill your hidden... lack ok, so that there is equality in everything, that is, in the hidden and the obvious, as in the wilderness, there was clear equality between those who gathered manna (Ex. 16:18). Therefore we sent Titus, whom you honored and accepted (2 Cor. 8:16–17). 2 Corinthians 8:18. We sent our brother with him, which although you did not know, but his praises in the gospel itself are proclaimed throughout all the churches, 2 Corinthians 8:19. ordained from the churches so that we might be our co-worker for this grace and 23 which we serve... we. 2 Corinthians 8:20. But we are afraid that someone will reproach us for the abundance of this service, which is done by us; 2 Corinthians 8:21. for we provide for good not in secret, before God only, but also 2 Corinthians 8:22. But we sent... and our other brother, whose experience although you didn't know, we have experienced many times in many of their affairs that he is diligent, and serves as my colleague instead of Titus, that is, he and Titus replace us. But they should not seem less in your eyes because I called them brothers, for they are apostles, although not from the Twelve, but from the Seventy-two (2 Cor. 8:23). 2 Corinthians 8:24. So, true proof of your love, Chit., like Armenian. and Greek: “so that we may accept,” just like many Min., Goth., Slav.; I don’t read other translations, where this passage reads like this: “we ask from us grace and fellowship of service to the saints.” Better: “with His riches,” “being rich” (Phil. 2:6, 7).
