“The Lord from on high... will give a voice... will speak a word to His place” (Jer. 25:30), that is, to Jerusalem and, especially, to His church. Here Jeremiah prophesies about the destruction of many nations who, together with the Jews, will be defeated by the Chaldeans. He predicts their final ruin, which was predicted by Isaiah and which he himself describes further in detail, and now represents the defeat of these peoples in the image of winegrowers trampling grapes in the winepress: “as they embrace the grapes, they will cry out: alas, alas, for all of them to sit on the land" (Jer. 25:30). These are the cries of the Chaldeans, who encourage each other to trample on the Jews and others the nations are like grapes gathered in a winepress. You might be interested in:
