“Behold... in righteousness... the king and the princes will begin to rule with judgment” (Is. 32:1), that is, Hezekiah and his princes. “And man... will be like a refuge from the wind” (Is. 32:2), that is, it will be a refuge in times of disaster. “And they do not tell a holy fool to rule over all these things... For a holy fool will speak” (Is. 32:5-6). This refers to the king of Assyria, who thought that with his strength and the power of his idols he would defeat Hezekiah. “And the heart with the mind will understand the vision” (Is. 32:4), that is, Hezekiah, who opened the letters of Rabshakeh... to the Lord (Is. 37:14). Such is Rabshakeh in blasphemy against God. “And the verb... charm,” as Rabshakeh says: “Where are the gods of the nations?” “Here... he will create souls from the greedy and take away the food from the thirsty soul” (Is. 32:6). With this intention they said: “Let not Hezekiah’s words deceive you... this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria” (Is. 36:14–15). “He who is great in spirit counsels great things.” Hezekiah, strong in spirit, advises great things, because he looks to God with firm trust. “And... will remain... in greatness” (Is. 32:8), that is, he will be saved and preserve the greatness of his kingdom. “Rich women, arise and hear My voice: daughters, hear My words with hope” (Isaiah 32:9). Rich wives and daughters who hope are the essence of the cities of Judah, who reveled in the hope of salvation. “And in days and years they will groan” (Is. 32:10). They will be deprived of their hope, salvation will disappear, the fruits of the earth will become scarce, enemies will destroy them in their land. This is in accordance with what was said: “yet another summer (one) ... the glory of the sons of Kedar will fail” (Is. 21:16). Isa.32:10) The deliverance that was expected will not come. “Be naked, be naked, gird up your loins in sackcloth” (Is. 32:11), because your land is devastated, and the inhabitants are taken into captivity by the Assyrians. “In the land of My people thorns and thorns will arise, and in every house I am glad” (Is. 32:13), that is, the cities of Judah will be destroyed. “The church will be forgotten,” that is, the holy temple of Jerusalem. “And the power will cease,” that is, the city will not become crowded. “Houses of lust... will be... caves... the donkey will delight in joy” (Is. 32:14). The prophet refers to the fall of Jerusalem; Some of its inhabitants are in captivity, others fled to Egypt, seeking refuge. “The Dondezh will come upon us with the Spirit from the Most High, and there will be a desert in Hermel, and Hermel will be counted as an oak grove” (Is. 32:15). The land of Judah will be desolate, like Carmel (Hermel); and Carmel, that is, the Assyrians who abounded in everything, will be burned with fire. “And judgment will rest in the desert, with which the righteous Judge will take revenge for the devastation of the land of Judea, and righteousness will dwell in Carmel” (Is. 32:16), because the Assyrians will receive their due reward. “And the works of righteousness shall be peace” (Isaiah 32:17). The Jews will be rewarded with peace and tranquility for honoring the truth. “And my people shall dwell in the city of peace,” that is, in Jerusalem (Is. 32:18). “And hail will fall on the forest,” that is, on the kingdom of Assyria. “The city will come down like a field to the ground” (Is. 32:19), that is, the proud camp of the king of Assyria, rising like a strong city. “Blesseds are they that sow by all the water.” Blessed - or because deliverance is predicted for them; or because they believed the prophecy spoken to those who lived under Hezekiah. But this primarily applies to the holy apostles and preachers, who sowed the seeds of the saving word in all nations. “Where the ox and the ass trample” (Is. 32:20). Under the image of an ox, the people of Israel are represented here, who were under the yoke of the law, and under the image of a donkey, the pagans are represented, who according to the law were considered unclean.
