The General Menaion contains sequences (services) for the moving and stationary days of the yearly circle with such variable prayers that the Holy Church has assigned to all saints of a known face, or rank: in other words, the General Menaion contains sequences with general prayers for all saints of the same face. So, the General Menaion differs from the Monthly in that: a) it contains prayers not specific to each saint, but common to many saints; b) contains fewer sequences than the Monthly Menaion. And since the Orthodox Church sometimes celebrates the memory of two or more saints of the same face on one day, then for the saints of a certain face there are two common observances: one observance for the day when one saint is remembered, the other when two or many saints of the same face are remembered. So, there are services: a) to the apostle and apostles, b) to the saint and saints, c) to the venerable and venerable ones, d) to the martyr and martyrs, e) to the holy martyr and holy martyrs, f) to the venerable martyr and venerable martyrs, g) to the martyr and martyrs, h) to the venerable wife and venerable wives. In addition to the observances of the saints, the General Menaion contains general observances of the feasts of the Lord, the Sunday service of the Octoechos - 6 tones, the Easter service, services for the feasts of the Theotokos, services to the Cross, angels, the Forerunner and the Councils. The calculated successions (services) of the Lord, the Mother of God and other holidays are general in content; therefore, they can be sung on every feast of the Lord, the Mother of God, etc. In the Church, the General Menaion has two uses. Firstly, it is necessary during the Monthly Menaion, when it is necessary to perform services for such saints who either do not have any successions in the Monthly Menaion, or although they do, they do not contain all the prayers that need to be sung during the service, for example, to a church saint. Secondly, in poor churches and where services are held only on holidays, the General Menaion replaces the lack of other liturgical books and mainly replaces the Monthly Menaion.
