2 Chronicles 6:2. and I have built a house as a dwelling place for You, [Holy One], a place for Your eternal dwelling.
Wed. ( 1 Kings 8:12–13 ) comments in the Expository Bible, II, 401.
2 Chronicles 6:3. And the king turned his face and blessed the whole congregation of Israel; the whole congregation of Israel stood,
2 Chronicles 6:4. and he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath now fulfilled with his own hand what he spake with his mouth to David my father! He said:
2 Chronicles 6:5. “Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any of the tribes of Israel to build an house in which My name should dwell, nor have I chosen a man to be a ruler over My people Israel,
2 Chronicles 6:6. but I chose Jerusalem, that my name might be there, and I chose David to be over my people Israel.”
2 Chronicles 6:7. And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.
2 Chronicles 6:8. But the Lord said to David my father: “It is in your heart to build a church for My name; It's good that it's in your heart.
2 Chronicles 6:9. However, it is not you who will build the church, but your son who will come from your loins, he will build the church for My name.”
2 Chronicles 6:10. And the Lord fulfilled His word which He had spoken: I took the place of David my father, and sat on the throne of Israel, as the Lord had spoken, and built an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.
2 Chronicles 6:11. And I placed there the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord, which he made with the children of Israel.
Wed. commentary on verses 14-21 in The Expository Bible, II, 401-402. In verses 5 and 6, the words of Jehovah: “And he chose not a man to be the ruler of My people Israel, but chose Jerusalem” are not read in 1 Kings according to Hebrews. text; only according to the text of the LXX, Slavic and Russian, the name Jerusalem is also there. Apparently, the originality in this case is on the side of 1 Kings. There is no doubt that this place relates to the promise and law of Jehovah about the unity of the place of worship (Deut. 12:13–14), and there this place, then unknown to the Jews, is not named.
2 Chronicles 6:12. And Solomon stood at the altar of the Lord in front of all the congregation of Israel, and lifted up his hands,
2 Chronicles 6:13. for Solomon made a brass pulpit five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high, and set it in the midst of the courtyard; and stood upon it, and knelt before all the congregation of Israel, and lifted up his hands to heaven,
Wed. ( 1 Kings 8:22–23 ). In 1 Kings there is no mention of the “brazen pulpit” (kiyor-nehoshet, βάσις καλκή, basis aenea, sl.: “it stood of copper”), as a specially royal place in Solomon’s Temple. Meanwhile, such a royal place undoubtedly existed in this church, according to testimony (2 Kings 11:14,23:3), where it is called in the Hebrew text ammud, “column”; it was located at the eastern, so-called “royal” (1 Chronicles 9:18), probably due to the fact that the king entered the church through these gates and the very place for the king, or the stage, was located near these gates. The volume of the place is indicated precisely in 1 Chronicles: the length and width are 5 cubits each (about 3 arshins 12 vershoks), the height is 3 cubits (2 arshins 3 vershoks); Wed The Expository Bible, II, p. 402 and 568; Wed prof. Olesnitsky, Old Testament Church, p. 36 and 355. According to rabbinical testimonies, the king never sat in the church during divine services, and either stood on his ambo, or knelt, or prostrated himself. Migne, Scripturae Sacrae Cursus Comlpetus, t. XI, p. 117.
2 Chronicles 6:14. and said: Lord God of Israel! There is no God like You, neither in heaven nor on earth. You keep covenant and mercy towards Your servants, who walk before You with all their hearts:
2 Chronicles 6:15. Thou hast fulfilled unto thy servant David my father what thou hast spoken unto him; What You have spoken with Your mouth, You have fulfilled this day with Your hand.
2 Chronicles 6:16. And now, O Lord God of Israel! Fulfill unto Thy servant David my father that which Thou hast spoken unto him, saying, Thy [husband] shall not cease to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, unless thy sons watch their ways, walking in My law as thou hast walked before Me.
2 Chronicles 6:17. And now, O Lord God of Israel! Let Thy word be true, which Thou hast spoken to Thy servant David.
Wed. (1 Kings 8:23–26). In the verse (2 Chronicles 6:14) he omits the expressions “above” and “below” used in (1 Kings 8:23). In the verse (2 Chronicles 6:16) there is the expression “according to My law” (Heb.: betorati, “in My law”), instead of the corresponding one in (1 Kings 8:25): “before Me.”
2 Chronicles 6:18. Truly, does God live with people on earth? If heaven and the heavens of heavens cannot contain You, how much less this church which I have built.
2 Chronicles 6:19. But consider the prayer of Your servant and his petition, O Lord my God! Hear the invocation and prayer that Your servant prays before You.
2 Chronicles 6:20. May Your eyes be open to this church day and night, to the place where You promised to place Your name, to hear the prayer that Your servant will pray in this place.
2 Chronicles 6:21. Hear the prayers of Your servant and Your people Israel, which they will pray in this place; Hear from Your dwelling place, from heaven, hear and have mercy!
2 Chronicles 6:22. When someone sins against his neighbor, and an oath is required of him, so that he swears, and the oath is performed before Your altar in this church,
2 Chronicles 6:23. Then hear from heaven and bring judgment on Your servants, reward the guilty, laying his deed on his head, and justify the just, rewarding him according to his righteousness.
2 Chronicles 6:24. When Your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against You, and they turn to You, and confess Your name, and ask and pray before You in this church,
2 Chronicles 6:25. Then hear from heaven, and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and return them to the land that You gave to them and to their fathers.
2 Chronicles 6:26. When the heavens are closed and there is no rain because they have sinned against You, and they pray in this place, and confess Your name, and turn from their sin, because You have humbled them,
2 Chronicles 6:27. Then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants and Your people Israel, showing them the good way in which to go, and send rain on Your land, which You have given to Your people as an inheritance.
2 Chronicles 6:28. Will there be famine on the earth, will there be a pestilence, will there be a scorching wind or rust, locusts or worms, will his enemies oppress him in the land of his possessions, will there be any disaster, any disease,
2 Chronicles 6:29. every prayer, every petition that will be from any person or from all Your people Israel, when they each feel their distress and grief and stretch out their hands to this church,
2 Chronicles 6:30. Hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and forgive and reward everyone according to all his ways, just as You know his heart, for You alone know the heart of the sons of men,
2 Chronicles 6:31. that they may fear You and walk in Your ways all the days that they live in the land that You gave to our fathers.
2 Chronicles 6:32. Even the foreigner who is not from Your people Israel, when he comes from a far land for the sake of Your great name and Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm, and comes and prays at this church,
2 Chronicles 6:33. Hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, and do everything that the foreigner calls to You, so that all the nations of the earth will know Your name, and so that they will fear You, like Your people Israel, and know that this house that I have built is called by Your name.
2 Chronicles 6:34. When Your people go out to war against their enemies in the way that You will send them, and pray to You, turning to this city that You have chosen, and to the church that I have built for Your name,
2 Chronicles 6:35. then hear their prayer and their request from heaven and do what is necessary for them.
Wed. (1 Kings 8:31–45). For comments on Solomon's prayer, the nature and meaning of its individual petitions, see The Explanatory Bible, vol. II, p. 403–404.
2 Chronicles 6:36. When they sin before You - for there is no man who has not sinned - and You become angry with them, and hand them over to the enemy, and their captors take them to a land far or near,

2 Chronicles 6:38. and they will turn to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, where they will be led into captivity, and they will pray, turning to their land that You gave to their fathers, and to the city that You chose, and to the church that I built for Your name, -
2 Chronicles 6:39. Then hear from heaven, from Your dwelling place, their prayer and their petition, and do what is necessary for them, and forgive Your people for what they have sinned against You.
Wed. Commentary on (1 Kings 8:46–50), The Expository Bible, vol. II, p. 405.
2 Chronicles 6:41. And now, Lord God, stand in the place of Your rest, You and the ark of Your power. May Your priests, O Lord God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your saints enjoy blessings.
2 Chronicles 6:42. Lord God! do not turn away the face of Your anointed one, remember your mercy towards David Your servant.
These last two verses of Solomon's prayer are not read in 1 Kings, but have a close, partly literal, resemblance to the words of the psalm (Ps. 132:8-10). Wed. The Explanatory Bible, vol. II, p. 405.
