And they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings to God. 1 Chronicles 16:2. When David finished the burnt offerings and the offering of peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord 1 Chronicles 16:3. and he distributed to all the Israelites, both men and women, one loaf of bread and a piece of meat and a mug of wine. These verses are a literal repetition (2 Samuel 6:17–19). 1 Chronicles 16:4. And he appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the Lord, so that they would praise, thank and exalt the Lord God of Israel: 1 Chronicles 16:5. Asapha in chief, second after him Zechariah, Jeel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattathiah, Eliab, and Benaiah, Obed-edom and Jeel with psalms and harps, and Asaph for playing the cymbals, 1 Chronicles 16:6. and Benaiah and Uzziel the priests, to blow a trumpet continually before the ark of the covenant of God. Of the three chief musicians named in (1 Chronicles 15:17–18) and (1 Chronicles 15:19–21) and the 14 persons subordinate to them, in the present case only one Asaph and nine musicians are mentioned; likewise, of the seven priests appointed to blow the trumpets (1 Chron. 16:24), only two are noted. An explanation for this phenomenon is given in (1 Chronicles 16:39–42). From them it is clear that two other leaders of the Levitical choirs - Heman and Ethan (Idihun), as well as the rest of the persons mentioned in (1 Chronicles 16:17-18), together with the priest Zadok, were appointed to serve at the Gibeon tabernacle. Asaph and the persons of verses 5-6 were therefore left at the Tabernacle of Zion. 1 Chronicles 16:8. glorify the Lord, proclaim His name; proclaim His works among the nations; 1 Chronicles 16:9. sing to Him, jingle to Him; tell about all His miracles; 1 Chronicles 16:10. glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice; 1 Chronicles 16:11. seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face unceasingly; 1 Chronicles 16:12. remember the wonders that He did, His signs and the judgments of His mouth, 1 Chronicles 16:13. you, the seed of Israel, His servants, the sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! 1 Chronicles 16:14. He is the Lord our God; His judgments are throughout the whole earth. 1 Chronicles 16:15. Remember His covenant forever, the word which He commanded for a thousand generations, 1 Chronicles 16:16. what he bequeathed to Abraham and what he swore to Isaac, 1 Chronicles 16:17. and which he made to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant, 1 Chronicles 16:18. saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan as an inheritance for you.” 1 Chronicles 16:19. They were then few in number and insignificant, and the strangers in it, 1 Chronicles 16:20. and passed from nation to nation and from one kingdom to another nation; 1 Chronicles 16:21. but He did not allow anyone to offend them, and rebuked the kings for them: 1 Chronicles 16:22. “Touch not My anointed, and do not harm My prophets.” 1 Chronicles 16:23. Sing to the Lord, all the earth, preach His salvation day by day. 1 Chronicles 16:24. Proclaim His glory to the Gentiles, His wonders to all nations, 1 Chronicles 16:25. for the Lord is great and praiseworthy, fearful above all gods. 1 Chronicles 16:26. For all the gods of the nations are nothing, but the Lord created the heavens. 1 Chronicles 16:27. Glory and majesty are before Him, power and joy are in His [holy] place. 1 Chronicles 16:28. Give to the Lord, O tribes of nations, give to the Lord glory and honor, 1 Chronicles 16:29. Give the Lord glory to His name. Take the gift, go before His face, worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness. 1 Chronicles 16:30. Tremble before Him, all the earth, for He founded the universe; it will not be shaken. 1 Chronicles 16:31. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth rejoice, and let them say among the nations: The Lord reigns! 1 Chronicles 16:32. Let the sea splash and fill it, let the field rejoice and all that is in it. 1 Chronicles 16:33. Let all the trees of the forest rejoice together before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth. 1 Chronicles 16:34. Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever, 1 Chronicles 16:35. and say: save us, O God our Savior! Gather us and deliver us from the nations, so that we may glorify Your holy name and may we boast in Your glory! 1 Chronicles 16:36. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said: Amen! Hallelujah! As far as one can judge from the content and nature of the song set out in these verses, it does not represent one integral work. There is almost no connection between verses 22 and 23, 34 and 35. This phenomenon is explained by the fact that this song is composed of fragments of three psalms. It is in verses 8-22 that it is literally similar to (Ps. 105:1-15), in verses 23-33 - with (Ps. 95:1-12) and in verses 34-36 - (Ps. 105:1,47-48). The glorification of God by proclaiming His works - miracles - should proceed from the idea that the people of Israel, the descendants of Jacob, are His chosen people, and the participation of Providence was reflected in their history. The people of Israel, in the person of their patriarchal ancestors, were promised possession of the Promised Land, and therefore the Lord protected the small patriarchal family, from which this future owner of Canaan was to be formed, from various dangers threatening its existence. The earth and all the peoples inhabiting it must take part in glorifying God. The basis for such worldwide praise of Jehovah is His infinite greatness and power. They are especially clear when comparing Him with the gods of the nations: the latter are “nothing”, simple nonentities without real existence, and He is the omnipotent Creator of heaven, who is surrounded by glory and greatness, partly in the heavenly sanctuary, partly in the earthly (Jerusalem). The worldwide praise of the Lord is the opening of His universal kingdom, and the happy result of this is that the world ruled by Him will be firm and unshakable, for righteousness will be established everywhere. Even creatures will find in God a righteous ruler and king, and therefore they too should rejoice in view of His coming. Verses (1 Chronicles 16:34–42) – see comments on (1 Chronicles 16:4–6).
