What are they doing in the world now? Preparation for the bright days of the Resurrection of Christ. Both the rich and the poor are equally moving, fussing about how to make the holiday brighter for themselves. Will we blame the holidays for the troubles? - No, that's in the order of things. As long as we are on earth, in the flesh: until then we cannot forget either earth or flesh. The Pauls themselves forgot them only when they were admired to the third heaven. And at another time they cried out: “Wretched is the man who will deliver me from the body of this death” (Rom. 7:24). So, let us not condemn if everyone these days spends an extra hour in the marketplace. But we cannot help but offer advice on how to make everyone’s holiday truly bright. Is there a remedy for this? There is and, moreover, everyone has the same. This means consists in cleansing oneself through prayer and repentance. In this way and only in this way, your soul will become light, pure and bright: and when it is like this in your soul, then the holiday will be bright and joyful. And without this, nothing will help. The flesh, taking advantage of what has been prepared for the holiday, will rejoice, but the spirit will remain in darkness and cold, in the same bonds and under the same weight.
