(Said on August 15th; printed in the Works of the Holy Father, 1860 and in the collection, 1861) Most pious Sovereign! Your vision, always bright for us, now shines for us with an even new ray. Near You we see Your beloved Firstborn, for the first time here after His accession to the throne of his age. It is joyful to see this fulfillment over You, and the hope of the further fulfillment of the ancient blessing: “I will build your throne for generations and generations” (Ps. 88:5). We also rejoice spiritually that it is pleasing to You, together with Your faithful capital, to celebrate its cathedral feast in the church of Your royal wedding. Blessed be Thy favor upon Thy ancient capital. Blessed be Thy reverence for her ancient shrine. The unity of the king and the people in the true faith is the life-giving source of their state unity and strength. May He who raised You up from the blessed root of kings, anointed You from above and made You the protector of His Church, always promote You, both in preserving her peace in our Fatherland, and in restoring her destroyed world outside it, and may all Your royal deeds be well directed towards the true and unshakable prosperity of all loyal subjects.
