When you establish yourself in this remembrance, not nakedly, but with reverence and other feelings for the Lord, then this remembrance will force you to be correct in everything else, and so correct that in this correctness you will have a kind of wonderful beauty, for there is a gnarled, clumsy correctness. This memory will be your master, manager and builder of all your affairs, especially your inner life. Then in you will be fulfilled what the Apostle prayerfully wished for the Ephesians, and through them for all Christians, saying: “May (God) grant to you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with the power of His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith” (Eph. 3:16-17). This is what I'm talking about. The Apostle considered this so important that, praying about this, he prayed with special fervor: “I bow,” he says, “the knee... to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 3:14). How can you and I not talk about this? When you are confirmed in your inner man by the memory of God, then Christ the Lord will dwell in you. Both go together. And this is a sign for you, by which you can be convinced that this wonderful thing has begun to take place in you, namely: a certain warm feeling for the Lord. If you do everything prescribed, then this feeling will soon begin to appear, more and more often, and then it will become continuous. This feeling is sweet and blissful, and from its first appearance it arouses desire and the search for it, so that it does not leave the heart, for there is paradise in it. Do you want to quickly enter this paradise? This is what you do: when you pray, do not leave prayer without arousing in your heart some feeling towards God: either reverence, or devotion, or thanksgiving, or exaltation, or humility and contrition, or trust and hope. Also, when you begin to read through prayer, do not leave reading without bringing the truth you have read to your senses. These two feelings (techniques), warming themselves up mutually, can, if you pay attention to yourself, keep you under their influence all day. Take the trouble to perform these two techniques exactly - and you will see for yourself what will happen. When a thing lies in the sun for a long time, it becomes very hot; so will it be with you. Keeping yourself under the rays of the memory of God and under feelings in relation to Him, you will become more and more heated with unearthly warmth, and then you will become completely hot, and not only hot, but also burning. And it will be fulfilled on you: “Fire has come to set fire on the earth” in the hearts of men, and I desire nothing so much as for it to ignite in everyone as quickly as possible (Luke 12:49). Add to this the following comparison: when a spark falls on a flammable substance, the substance begins to smolder little by little, then flares up, and finally everything is engulfed in flames and, being dark by nature, becomes light and shining due to the fire that has declared it; so will it be with you. As you warm up little by little, warm up, a spiritual fire will flare up and, penetrating you piece by piece, it will embrace you all and make you light, even though you are darkness in yourself. Remember that at first it was said about a certain shell of the soul, and then about the radiance of the blessed soul 12. This is what will happen to you and in you! Truly so! But in advance it takes work and sweat, and how long - the One God knows, for everything is from Him. Just know that God is not offended so that you forget your labor of love.
