Thus says the Lord: “I am the Lord your God,... teaching you useful things, leading you along the path you should go. Oh, that you would heed My commandments! Then your peace would be like a river, and your truth like the waves of the sea. And your seed would be like sand, and those that come from your loins like grains of sand; his name would not have been blotted out, his name would not have been destroyed before Me” (Isa. 48:17-19). Under what conditions? “Come out from Babylon” (Isa. 48:20). Babylon is an image of all-round sinfulness. Forsake sin, turn to the Lord with all your heart, and He will not remember your iniquities, and will consign all your iniquities to oblivion. Again you will show mercy to Him, and then just walk the path that He teaches you, and your inner peace will be like a river, the good thoughts of your heart will be like sand, and the fruits of your good deeds will be like the dust of the earth.
