“Fear God and shun evil” (Proverbs 3:7). Set this as the limit of your fasting, so that at the end of it the fear of God will be established and the firm intention to evade all evil will take root, even if this requires you to lose everything, even your life. To do this, do not limit yourself to just the external order of fasting, but take special care of yourself, go inside yourself and look at your way of thinking, whether it agrees with God’s truthful word in everything - look at your inclinations and dispositions, whether they are what the Lord requires of you in the Gospel; Look at your whole life, whether it agrees with the commandments of God in everything. Mourn and hate everything that is ungodly, and resolve not to return to it in the future. When you do this, you will be wise, but if you don’t, then you won’t. You might be interested in:
