(Heb. 11, 17–23, 27–31; Mark 9, 42–10:1) “Everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt” (Mark 9:49). Before this, the Lord spoke about the fact that one must be ready for all kinds of sacrifices and all kinds of acts of selflessness, just to stay on the good path. Even if these sacrifices are as dear to us as an eye, or necessary as a right hand, we must make them without hesitation; for if you regret making such a sacrifice, and as a result you are carried away from the right path to the wrong, then you will be forced to suffer forever in your future life. So, make a sacrifice, painful and sorrowful here, to avoid torment there. Without fiery purification here one cannot be saved from eternal fire. Anyone who wants to be saved must be salted with fire and undergo fiery purification. All of us, according to the law of creation, must sacrifice ourselves to God; but every one of us is unclean. It means that we must purify ourselves so that we can be made into a sacrifice acceptable to God (cf. Rom. 12:1). But if you start to cleanse yourself, tear passions away from your soul, it will hurt like being burned by fire. This action of internal self-purification is similar to the action of fire purifying metal. Metal is insensitive. If you give him a feeling, then he would feel both the cleansing and the burning in a modern way *38; this same thing happens in a self-purifying person. After going through this action, it is as if he was completely burned by fire. The cleansing fire passes through all parts of it, just as salt penetrates a salted body. And only the one who is subjected to this action becomes a real God-pleasing sacrifice; Therefore, it is necessary for everyone to be salted with fire, just as in the Old Testament every sacrifice was salted before it was offered as a burnt offering.
