(2 John 1, 1–13; Mark 15, 22–25, 33–41) St. John the Theologian writes: “Many deceivers have entered into the world, not confessing Jesus Christ who has come in the flesh” (2 John 1:7). This was the case in his time; and now deceivers are entering the world, who confess Christ as having come in the flesh, but who are nevertheless “deceivers and antichrists” (2 John 1:7). This began more clearly from the time of Arius and continues to this day. The ancients, however, stumbled more in the dogma about the person of Jesus Christ, our Savior; and from the time of Luther they began to stumble in the doctrine of salvation in Him. And how many of these have already happened? And among us such “deceivers and antichrists” have appeared who interpret that “believe and it is enough”; nothing more is needed: no church, no sacraments, no priesthood. These too begin their flattery with Christ the Lord and salvation in Him. But no matter how wrongly they interpret this, they are the Antichrists and are subject to an oath. Beware of them. “Whoever transgresses the teaching of Christ and does not continue in it does not have God” (2 John 1:9). And they haven't; because they do not have the teachings of Christ. This teaching is in the Church, but they separated from the Church. Only those who follow the Church have the teachings of Christ and abide in it. For this reason they also have Christ the Son of God and God the Father. But they don’t have it, even though they say they have it. “Do not receive such people or welcome them” (2 John 1:10).
