(1 Cor. 15, 29–38; Matt. 21, 23–27) In response to the Lord’s question about John the Baptist, the bishops and elders thought: whether we say this or that, everything is unprofitable for us, and therefore they decided to hide behind ignorance. His interest tied their tongues and did not allow them to testify to the truth. If they loved the truth more than themselves, their speech would be different, their deeds would be different. His interest closed the truth and did not allow it to reach his heart, prevented the formation of sincere conviction and made him indifferent to it. And it’s always like this: selfish aspirations are the ultimate enemies of truth. All other enemies follow them and act through them. If we look at how all errors and heresies were born, it turns out that this is the source of all of them. In words the truth is the truth, but in reality the truth interferes in this and that respect; we must eliminate it and put in its place a lie that is favorable to us. Why, for example, are there materialistic nihilists? Because the idea of ​​God the Creator, Provider and Judge, with the idea of ​​the spirituality of the soul, prevents them from living more widely according to their inclinations; so they remove her. That it is not the truth that guides the nihilists is evident from the insignificance of the grounds on which they are affirmed: they want it to be the way they think, and every ghost reflecting their thoughts is presented by them as a witness to the truth. If they had sobered up even a little, they would have immediately seen their lies. But they feel sorry for themselves, that’s why they remain as they are. You might be interested in:
