(1 Cor. 10, 5–12; Matt. 16, 6–12) “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees” (Matthew 16:6), said the Lord. The Sadducees are a model of carelessness; The Pharisees are representatives of people who wear the face of zealots. They do nothing, but these seem to be busy, but in reality nothing works out for them. We are like them who are carried away by the ideas of humanity. Listen, they only talk about the good of the people, but the people don’t get any good from this, because they only talk and don’t do it. They have feigned humanity, they only show that they have it, but in essence they are egoists. Speeches do not require sacrifices - well, they squander them, and if they touch the matter of sacrifices, they will go back. Nowadays almost everyone is an actor; some are portrayed in front of others as zealots of good and especially enlightenment, and everyone remains very pleased when they manage to testify in words that they really are. That’s why in our country, as soon as any charitable undertaking appears, talk will arise everywhere, but the matter will still not be completed. Don’t expect sacrifices from them; they do not need to care about others, as long as their affairs go well. But it also happens that, without racking their brains over plans to benefit their neighbors, they sacrifice just to get away with it.
